Registered 15 years agoI love the fact that shares in Microsoft have surged in value on this announcement! Youwch!
Balmer always reminded me of the sort of bullish American general you'd see in films / comedies who charge in without thinking and would inevitably end up getting blown to pieces. -
Shares in Old Spice antiperspirant plummet. -

Registered 10 years agoNot sure this is such good news. Balmer was changing Microsoft from a software company into a device and services focussed one and the new CEO is, according his press release, expected to follow that direction. We could end up with someone who's just as incompetent unless MS start taking more risks in R&D. -

Registered 8 years agoNot sure how good he was at leading Microsoft, but he seemed like an alright guy, albeit a bit eccentric. -

The more I read about him the more I have this exact picture of him. 'I'm going to bury Google!' and the 'The iPhone won't sell' are two of his amazing claims and predictions.
That he said Microsoft 'wouldn't ever be first to market, but will be the first to make a profit' just sums the guy up. -
Don Mattrick.
You heard it here first. -

Registered 12 years agoI read this in an article concerning his retirement and thought it was pretty funny.
In regular early trading, Microsoft shares were up 7% in to $34.68. Since Ballmer owns some 333 million shares, news of his retirement actually boosted his own net worth by about $1 billion.
Not a bad retirement package then! -
