Just had a pretty big update and now everything is in £'s rather than MSP.

Running a bit slow at the moment but it says my 260MSP are being converted to £2.38

Did you not have an email a while back informing you of this change?

I thought it was just Richey that disappeared.

Cant remember to be honest but I don't think they gave an actual date? In fact some are claiming this is the fall update rolling out?

It's about time! Monopoly money is no more. Xbox Live is now a normal, transparent digital content service, where a price is advertised and your card charged accordingly. I might actually buy stuff off it now! So many games to catch up on, so little time! \o/

Funny how some games look more tempting when in £'s.

How do you add the converted money to a sale or does it automatically ask if you want to?

Thinking of getting SH:Downpour and it will cost just over £5 if I can add my £2.38.

Goodbye points, you were fantastic, even Microsoft would sell them for less than they should at times, 4200 for 25 quid from the Microsoft Store was pretty great.
  • Deleted user 26 August 2013 17:37:06
Excellent. No more having to spend more money than I need on surplus points!
  • Deleted user 26 August 2013 17:37:42
    yay for bare minimum expectations!

This isn't news, it's been very widely reported weeks ago that the latest update was bringing this change...

It's because MS wants a universal system for all its devices so you only need one account to buy anything from it's multiple products, makes sense really and the points system on the 360 marketplace was hindering that.

I think they shot themselves in the foot with points for a number of reasons, one of which is that 1200 seems like £12.00 in your head even when you know it's not... At least for me :)

At what point did I say the change was news? They never gave a date for none beta testers of the new dash.

I am happy. I'd much rather just be charged a price - even if it is more expensive - and decide if I think it's worth it or not. Let market forces prevail. Better than being tricked.

Being tricked because you had to use some basic maths?

Precisely... The conversion was hardly difficult!

I appear to have nothing, which is a bit odd, I had to leave my Xbox while it was updating, I get back to it after it's done it and now I'm not seeing any indication of how much I've got. On Microsoft's account site it's still saying I've got over 3K in points.

    Very strange.

edit: must have timed out on asking or something, attempting to buy an indie title as a test and it's done the conversion.

I had to buy something (didn't "have" to but I was jonesing for a sombrero) before it finished the process
  • Deleted user 26 August 2013 19:29:28
These issues are only valid if you could buy exact amount of MS points that you wanted.

Being 'forced' to buy 800 MS points when all you need are 100 MS points to buy that extra bit of fluff for your AAA you're playing that weekend is where the issue lay.

There might still be a minimum spend so you can't just buy the cheap stuff for the exact amount.

I think PSN does this as it works like funding a wallet first before purchasing. Transaction fees or something, myth for greed, I dunno.

I don't think it actually is more expensive. Unless you got your points on the cheap. The bad conversion was sorted months ago.

If it is more expensive then it's pence more. 800 point games are £6.99. I think it's 19p different if £8.50 was 1000 points. 800 is £6.80? Hardly bank breaking.

You need to pick the change payment method. Mine is blacked out which is annoying so I can't actually use it.

The latest system update has just given me an E80 system error. I downloaded it, the console rebooted, then it immediately gave me that error.

In an interesting twist though, I was part of the current beta but the update bricked my DVD drive. MS took my console and I got a refurbished one back about two weeks ago. However, I noticed the beta Dash was gone from my console when I fired it up and went through all the licensing stuff. I didn't bother chasing after it and reinstalling it again, but I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

Either way, looks like my console's fucked in a new and exciting way. Just in time for Castle of Illusion and GTAV.

You could usually get 2100 points for £14-15 so that's £7 for 1000 points, whereas now it's only 800 points for £7, so that means they were originally 25% cheaper, ie every 4 games you bought you got one free compared to the new system. Still, it makes some people happy I guess, and MS more money.
