Did anyone watch the first lot? Short 10 minute spoofs on those "programmes for schools and colleges" science type proggies? Weirdly surreal but wickedly funny...?

Well if not, looks like they've got a new series and are now having a half-hour (instead of ten minute) pop at things like Tomorrows World.

Definitely worth a watch, methinks! Unless you REALLY hate Dwayne Banzy of course.

    Sorry, 10pm on Beeb 2.

As I said, they're slightly longer episodes - and this time the stars will be talking rather than there being the (rather excellent) voiceovers - so we'll see if it is as good as the original (which I thought was definitely a sleeper hit - are they available on DVD?)

Not sure about the format change though, fingers crossed they won't have cocked it up.

    The trailer looks good.
But then I said that about Phantom Menace.

Nathan Barley is just around the corner, too. Friday 11th.

I didn't know it existed until Spanky got the dvd of the first series, which was mostly funny, but got a bit tired towards the end. I'll definitely watch the new series tonight though.

    Heh heh, "Pilk."

The worrying thing is, we have computers like that IN USE at this place...only last week someone came in with 2 10 inch floppies (matron) asking if there was a way we could get the data off them...

    That was fucking terrible.

I stopped playing GR2 to watch that and I want the 30 minutes of my life back.

    Original series=fantastic, this=diabolical.

I'll remember not to watch that next week then. Sounded good, but is it really that bad, Whizzo?

I may have smiled once, possibly twice, absolutely zero laughs though.

The real problem with it is that the "authentic" style of the original series is pretty much gone, any show that has Tchaikovsky's ghost judging a music contest has thrown away everything that the first series had.

Oh dear, about 5 minutes worth of good material padded out to fill 30 minutes.

    Meh.

Some good bits, the odd look here and there. But otherwise didn't get the feel it was looking for.

    Plus the jokes were shit.

    UGH!!!!

    They've ruined it.

1st mistake - The participants talking. The wry voiceover was what made the previous incarnation special.

2nd mistake - It just doesn't work as a half hour proggy.

3rd mistake - Fucking hell, re-using gags. Have they learned NOTHING from Little Britain? "Thanks Tchaikowsky...Thaikowsky" - the bloke couldn't even keep a straight face while he said it.

4th mistake - WTF!!!! I heard fresher jokes than those when I was in primary school!

Ugh, not happy. The original series was funny and inventive and completely surreal. This one (so far, I guess I'll tune in next week just to see if it really is all bad) is...for want of a better word...shite!!!

    Grrr...

Its weird how they've changed it to be more of a Blue Peter parody now.

I wasn't very impressed at all.

Well sorta Blue Peter meets Tomorrow's World (Early 70s era)

TBH Popper and Serafinowicz should've stuck to the original format, and only made the occasional appearance - cos they're just not funny! And as for Josie D'arby. Someone shoot me, now...!

It stole a lot of old gags from stuff like "The Day Today" unsuccesfully, and some of the stuff you could see coming a mile off (the mousey woman turning into a sex slut pop act - gee who'd have figured eh?)

Ah well, looks like we'll have to wait and see if Nathan Barley can somehow be any better.

still, I doubt that the original format would have stretched to a good second series

and the first series has weak episodes, but then belters like the "water" one - lets hope this follows the same path.

    Hmmm...

Might do I guess. The first series didn't get much attention but sorta became a cult classic because it was short and fitted in nicely - second series though, they're trying WAY too hard. The "computing" episode should be a laff though.

Last night's episode had me cringing with embarrasement more than laughter - one of those moments like when Granny drinks one too many sherries and starts singing "My old man said follow the van" and everyone's too embarrased to tell her to shut the fuck up.

hehe, I think it was probably because I found it completely randomly whilst channel hopping last night before bed.

We did spend a good 10minutes saying "is that 'Brian'?" though :)

Yep - Mark Heap was good...I like his pseudo-psychotic twitchiness.

    The rest was dire though.

That was almost as good as 'Last of the summer wine'.

Is the producer related to or shagging someone high up in the BBC?
