That was almost as good as 'Last of the summer wine'.

Is the producer related to or shagging someone high up in the BBC?

    This was my first thought.

Ack some stuff in it was just so annoyingly out of place that it just makes me sad to see it getting pimped so hard in Radio Times (but then what do they know)

The CGI portal thing people came through - What the FUCK was that about?!

Worryingly I quite fancy that goofy judith hann lookalike in it though (the one who was in Peep Show)

Tis true. Not that I mind that. She's got that whole "Funny but slutty" thing going on...

    Or is that just me...

    Yes, it's just me.

I dunno, but she annoys me. I know I'm rather buck-toothed myself, but I think it's her teeth that bother me.

Yeah it's a shame. Would be great as a short sketch in a larger show (a la Channel 9 on Fast Show) but a full half hour !
Mark Heap's bit was quite funny, but it's saying something when one of the highlights was him saying "annoyments".

(I didn't notice any buck-toothedness about you Roobs ?! But then it's often difficult to see anything past my enormous nose)

/considers a "If you could wave a magic wand what part of your body would you change" thread.

/realises I would change my magic wand.

    UGH!!!!

    They've ruined it.

1st mistake - The participants talking. The wry voiceover was what made the previous incarnation special.

2nd mistake - It just doesn't work as a half hour proggy.

3rd mistake - Fucking hell, re-using gags. Have they learned NOTHING from Little Britain? "Thanks Tchaikowsky...Thaikowsky" - the bloke couldn't even keep a straight face while he said it.

4th mistake - WTF!!!! I heard fresher jokes than those when I was in primary school!

Ugh, not happy. The original series was funny and inventive and completely surreal. This one (so far, I guess I'll tune in next week just to see if it really is all bad) is...for want of a better word...shite!!!

    Grrr...

    Peej

WHS - it was totally rubbish............

I'll put it on while I'm playing CoH, I missed out on some good gaming to watch that tripe last week, I'm not going to do the same thing again.

Same here. Will sit and watch it on the TV card (windowed) while I'm faddling around with some more 3D work.

I completely forgot it was on and left ER on the telly as I played CoH, doesn't look like I missed much then.

Nope - didn't miss much at all.

The jokes (if you can call them that) rely heavily on things being cheesy and 70s, and perhaps if this'd been shown BEFORE the world saw class comedies like Fawlty Towers and Blackadder, it might've raised the odd titter or two. But it's the sort of stuff you can let your kids watch because it's just so bloody childish.

And ffs, the "th" joke is getting really really really tired now.

Stale jokes aside, I think the art direction of this series is excellent. I mean, the styling of the clothing, the way they talk, the quality (or lack thereof) of the demonstration clips outside the studio: it's clear they have a big budget.

If you see it all in context I even like most of the jokes.

    MEDI BOT!

dire jokes that's not grammaticaly correct, is it?

2nd Episode... Still not really working is it?

I think the heart of the problem is... its not funny.

(bit with Simon Pegg was OK).
  • Deleted user 8 February 2005 10:35:08
it is hilarious and exactly like the old tv programmes of the 70's and 80's with a trippy twist. Its not just a one trick pony. very clever.

I have a feeling that one of the reasons I liked the first series so much was because I am a scientist. This series is properly shit. Not the worst thing on TV, but 1 or 2 chuckles per episode doesn't cut it.

Need more good comedy on telly now that Peep Show's finished!

Aye - Peep Show's just been bought by the yanks. Can you imagine what they'll do to it?

I'm well picky about comedy but my missus (who usually laughs at most stuff, specially (for some reason) fart gags) just sat there stoney faced through Look Around You and said "That was shit" at the end.

I think the reason the original worked was the voiceover format. That and the fact that they were quite short and the visual humour seemed to work better without the actors waffling on.

This series though, bleeh...you can see the punchline to the gags coming from a mile off.

OK, so it wasnt that great last night I have to admit. I actually find the styling of the program amusing as opposed to the actual 'gags' tbh.

the first series was definitely better. I think this one got the funny focus-grouped out of it on the most part. Still wasn't anything better on telly last night though.

(I also have a thing for the buck-toothed one. Not sure whether to feel relieved it's not just me or worried that I share the same taste as another EG forumite)

The buck toothed one is sexy, but in a MILFY kind of way. Not a pin up girl by any stretch of the imagination but you just know she "does it all"
