| Getting to the temple without many bombs or the glue is basically game over. That's why I always buy any bombs I see for sale. |

I never know whether getting the glue for bombs is worth it or not. Its not great if you want to just throw a bomb below for instance. -

Registered 16 years agoGlue definitely comes in handy for killing Anubis in the temple. And all those angry shopkeepers. For me, it's essential. -

Registered 18 years agoCan cope with or without, but glue is handy for more predictable bomb behaviour. -
The plasma cannon is floating about in the daily challenge if anyone is interested, in the PS4 one at least. I was on my way to getting the jet pack and a major score with it. But then died. -

Registered 7 years agoI've found the plasma gun once (in a daily challenge a while ago). I manged to blow myself up with it within a few minutes by firing at point blank range into a wall
Oh and another vote for glue bombs here. Essential for me. -

Registered 5 years agoI couldn't find a relevant thread for the PS4 version, but that's the one i'm playing. Has anyone here made it to Hell? In nearly 600 attempts (so the death screen tells me) i've never done it. I came pain-stakingly close today, though.
I got as far as defeating Olmec on 4-4. I made sure that upon his death, I had safely opened a way to the door to hell. I took a moment to calm my nerves and then dropped down to the door. As soon as I land by the door i'm killed by a damn fireball. Arrgh!!!!
This game is so good though. I've been playing it on and off ever since it came out on the PS4 and it's definitely in my all-time top 10. Such a beautifully designed game. -

Registered 18 years ago@DangerousDave_87 I haven't played in a long time, but generally found going through there succesfully easier than getting there: if I got there I would be in a pretty good groove, plus I would take much fewer point-scoring risks. I found that at a handful of sticky bombs and the cape/jetpack were essential.
Completing Spelunky feels like such an achievement, there are few gaming experiences - if any - like it.

Definitely. Truly a game where skill and experience builds over time. Lots of milestones along the way that initially seem borderline impossible then, once achieved, become second nature.

Registered 5 years ago@erniewhatbert Yeah, I pretty much aim to build up bombs and go for a cape/jet pack combo. It's great when you can get the shotgun, but i'm no good at robbing the shop keeper, so getting one is fairly rare.
I agree with you both though. It was an amazing feeling beating it for the first time. I'm still chipping away at the other trophies, but i'm not sure i'll ever obtain them.
It's been great fun going for them so far, though! -

Registered 18 years agoI spent an evening once experimenting on robbing the shopkeeper, perfecting the technique. It's not worth doing IMO unless there is a jet pack and/or a glut of bombs. Until the black market, which I rob every time: the reward is always worth the risk.

Registered 5 years agoI had my closet run at Hell today. Managed to get the Ank, Headjet and Sceptre. Then picked up the Book of the Dead and kill Anibus II (although I did this on 4-4, rather than the City of Gold as I made a quick exit first time). Finally, i'm fighting Olmec when I discover that if you grab the bottom half of his face you can force him into a repeated stomping pattern, which sped things up rather nicely. Until I some how got stuck in a gap i'd bombed earlier, leaving me completely trapped. I had no way out.
My second attempt was thwarted by a Snail that attacked one of the shop keepers in the black market. This meant the Ank was wasted, but I managed to survive a second death and completed the game the normal way.
Those damn Shop Keepers are super human. You can't let them see you!
Next time!

Registered 15 years agoAbsolutely love this game, still gets a lot of my playtime. Keep at it DangerousDave_87, as the others have said, practice and experience will get you there. I thought I'd never get to hell, or be able to take out the shopkeepers in the black market, but you learn. -

Registered 16 years agoAfter several years of enjoying Spelunky on my Vita and PS3 I decided to download it to my PS4, however, it refuses to pick up my cross save data and starts from the tutorial. No characters, shortcuts or journal entries unlocked. Any reason why it won't sync my progress? Is this a common issue? -

Registered 15 years agoNever realised this was on PS+ (in 2014!) just downloaded it. I wonder if there's a list somewhere of PS+ titles not "bought"? -

I've had some time off Spelunky, but have started doing the odd daily challenge again recently. -

Registered 17 years agoAh, just read up on it. You need to throw the damsel on the worm, and then get stuck yourself - it will then swallow you both up. Doesn't work if you just carry the damsel. -

HOLY SHIT!
Just saw this elsewhere, AMAAZING news! I actually got goose pimples when I read it lol
Long since stopped playing this, but that’s after playing it daily for nigh on 18 months a few years ago. I’ve achieved everything, bar the ludicrous mastery of bananasaurus et al.
I’m floored by this news. I assumed there’d never be a sequel. The first is the only game I seriously consider a perfect game.
