@oldskooldeano consider me suitably jealous. Slowly but surely I'm picking away at building my Saturn collection. I'd love to have a complete PAL set (got over 150 games at present), but don't see me ever buying the likes of Saga, Deep Fear or Megaman X3 which all sell north of £300. The only games I originally owned when I first had a Saturn, but which I've never re-purchased after I sold my original console to buy an N64, are Burning Rangers and Shining Force 3. Don't see paying the silly money they go for now either, unless I want my wife to divorce me... |

I've also got the original Steel Battalion (green button version), plus I bought Line of Contact seperately when it came out. Boxed, but it's been in my Dad's damp garage for quite some time. Not sure if it will still work... Need to dig it out.
Don't think I've got much that's mega-rare (original Steel Battalion still in mint condition? Ico with the art cards? Metal Gear Sold : Snake Eater, signed by Kojima?), but I've got a fair few games from the PS2 / N64 days that are still sealed. -

Registered 9 years agoNot sure how rare but was surprised by the price, but Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is going for £130ish on eBay, might have to sell my copy although I want to replay it at some point!
I also bought Skies of Arcadia on the Gamecube yesterday for £75 which is great as I've wanted that for almost twenty years and it usually goes for north of £130 as well, bosh! -

Registered 10 years agoI have a copy of both sat on the shelf next to me - didn't realise they were worth so much!
I'll never sell them for the reasons you stated above - I play TTYD every couple of years and I'm sure I've got one more run of Skies left in me. -

Registered 9 years agoI've got a mint Dreamcast copy of Skies of Arcadia, but I don't think it's quite as rare as the Gamecube version.
On the topic of valuable games generally, a more recent example I have is a new/sealed copy of Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water on Wii U. Limited print run, only available online, no physical release in the US. It was about £60 when I got it, but goes for well over the £100 mark now.
Only reason I didn't open it is because you could download and play the first 5th of the game for free. Started with that and, whilst good, just never got round to really getting stuck into it. -

Registered 14 years agoI have some decently rare PS1 games.
Megaman Legends 2 and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne roll around the £150-300 range depending on completeness/condition.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete maybe about £250 with all the gubbins. -

Registered 14 years agoWill have to dig out all my old stuff. Got a working Saturn, Atari Jaguar, two Atari Lynx’s, Dreamcast, Megadrive with Mega CD and 32X and a SNES. Sadly only the SNES is boxed. NeoGeo Pocket Colour and I know I have a mint UK Faselei. Various games for other systems but not sure of what from memory. Also have the elephant in the room, boxed Barcode Battler....... -

Registered 18 years ago@Pierre2k I hear you my friend, the prices are silly. I would certainly not pay them myself, and as such, I'm willing to sell, even though I love my Saturn and the collection.
I also own a Project Zero:Maiden of Black Water too. Never played. I thought maybe one day.. It's going on the SELL pile now! -

Registered 11 years agoPS2 is my no.1 system for collecting - currently have a console and 50+ games all new and sealed.
I would LOVE to get a Saturn collection together though....I still have my old one and all my old games, but I’d love some new/sealed stuff as it’s one of my favourite all-time consoles. -

Registered 15 years agoI've been actively collecting for SNES over the last couple of years and have managed to find quite a few gems, cib copies Terranigma and Sunset Riders are probably the most valuable, both good condition. Outside of that I've managed to get my hands on near mint copies of Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Actraiser, Castlevania IV and Parodius, no idea really what they're actually worth as it's very rare they pop up in that kind of condition. -

Registered 18 years agoI've been selling my Saturn collection all this week on eBay. I have about 60 more to list but most of the big hitters have gone, but some are still being bid on. It's been a lot of fun and extremely lucrative! -

Registered 18 years agoYeah I’ve got a R.O.B. too. Will also list it.
My experience of selling on eBay has been positive. I’ve dealt with what are obviously serious collectors. A few of them have complimented me on my collection and we have chatted over messages.
It’s been nice to have my collection recognised, I always knew it was good, but now I know just how good. It’s a lot of work, listing 250+ games but I have enjoyed it. It’s also been surprising to find out that some pretty minor games back in the day are now worth shedloads simply because they didn’t sell well and therefore not many are in circulation.
I recommend it if you fancy a clear out, you really might make a few quid! -

Registered 15 years agoI'm always worried about auctions, I tend to go buy it now with best offer. The few times I've done auctions theyve gone under market value, which is frustrating.
Although I have noticed from viewing listings that things seem to sell for more if the same seller is listing quite a few at once. I suppose there's more interest if you can see them being sold by a collector. -

Yes I've tried it both ways and it really depends on what you are selling. A rare game either way will sell, but if you price it too high at buy it now, there doesn't seem to be much interest. You either get stupid low offers or none as people are scared away. But if you hit the sweet spot it can be bought very quickly or a counter offer close to the asking price will sell it.

With bidding I have to say it's kind of fun. For example I have a copy of Metal Slug on the Sega Saturn up right now. I started it as a 7 day auction at £18, a low figure, it is now at £74 with 16 hours left to go! Nothing I put up for auction has gone for a low price relative to its value. Some things did go cheap but thats because they were common games or weird left field japanese stuff. Market Value? What is that? Things are ony worth what people will pay for them. Many of the prices on eBay are people just chancing their arm, or they start high and it gets automatically reduced over time. I've sold a few things cheaper than the highest price I have seen, but it is at a price that makes me happy and actually sells the goddamn thing which is the point. -

Registered 16 years agoEbay pricing is incredibly vulnerable to manipulation. I single handedly did my part to raise the prices on a few games when I was looking for a cheap source of replacement NTSC Gamecube boxes.
At this point you're looking for cheaper less desirable games just to get the boxes for far more valuable titles... And you end up raising the prices on the cheap games too. Leaving me on the lookout for NTSC Gamecube sports games in Europe as a source of spare boxes... Until the point I make the sports games too expensive too. -

Registered 14 years agoSo there were these things called NES Toploaders (NES-101) that were released in the US as a budget NES model towards the very end of the NES lifecycle. Ironically they are now highly sought after as not only are they rare, the top loading form factor eliminates the janky loading system of the original NES. The problem is that modding them is basically a necessity, as they only support RF out of the box. These things are worth at least £150. I've seen RGB modified ones going for well over £300.
Guess who has just destroyed his NES Toploader attempting to RGB mod it -
