Sad news, Frederik Pohl has passed. He was one of the few remaining Golden Age authors. Wrote one of the very best SF novels ever: Gateway. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/09/02/science_fiction_titan_frederik_pohl_dies_aged_93/ |
RIP Frederik Pohl

Registered 14 years agoGateway is still one of the best novels I've read. It's what sci-fi is about, not lasers and alien sex which non-readers think it is but a thought experiment on how humans would cope in a situation. The sacrifices, the guilt, the risks, the big gamble, love and the loneliness all tied together in a brilliant story. Still though, the man had a 75 year career in it! What a man and what a loss! -
Gateway? Is that the starter of the Heeche saga?
If so I love it. For more in the same vein try William Gibsons short story Hinterlands. (Which must be a homage)
