PS4 preorders have slowed right down ever since the console was no longer guaranteed for launch day, in my store we still have shit loads of enquiries about the console, but as soon as you say there's a chance they might not even get one for Xmas they wander off in a huff. Whereas MS keep changing their minds about just how short supplies will be on day one, they keep telling us to go into a second phase of preorders and then a week later say "Turns out we did have enough stock for those guys, start over again" |

Registered 12 years agoI have just received an email from Amazon updating and guaranteeing the delivery date to launch day. I'm getting it delivered to work so its going to be torture having it sat there all day waiting to go home! -

Do you think Sony will stick rigidly to the 6th August cut-off for a launch day guarantee? Surely cancelled pre-orders will eventually mean additional preorders will be met? This was before some of Microsoft's recent policies that made the Xbox One a lot more desirable.

I preordered mine on the 9th and wondering what my chances are of being offered a launch console. -

Numbers wise, and going by previous console launches, it would make sense that on the launch weekend we'll have enough stock in on day one to start making a dent in the phase 2 list. We were on about 160 pre-orders before August 6th, a huge number to have so far in advance of the release date, but it's an amount of stock we've had zero problems getting in before for new console launch weekends.
I think Sony and companies like Game just needed to play it safe, and avoid having thousands of customers kicking off that they didn't get theirs in time for Chrimbo and weren't warned about it, because if they'd have just kept on guaranteeing every single deposit, the numbers would have been ridiculous to achieve by November. -

Registered 10 years agoYeah, it makes sense that they would be cautious with their launch promise, especially when deposits and prepaid preorders are concerned. I imagine Sony themselves don't have concrete numbers at this stage so we'll just have to see. Thanks for the reply. -

No, it's not, it's been going on for as long as stores shave been taking shipments. My N64 from was the second wave of stock.

Yeah, when I worked at a shop we did that with the PS2 stock. Well, that's what was supposed to happen, but the severe stock shortages are well documented

Certainly not with the 360, PS3, Wii, etc. -

You're right, I've worked there a disgustingly long time and this is the first time, that I've ever seen, that a Phase 2 set of pre-orders have started before a console's actual launch.

If it was done before then it was literally only on the PS2 and N64 all those years ago (Before my time).
We've had Phase 2's with more recent consoles, but only after they've already been released and we're getting a list of customers for whenever the next batch shows up.

Registered 10 years agoIf you're not happy with your preorder then tweet #XBoxOneChoice and see if Microsoft can give us the choice at the point of download. They've already shown that they listen to feedback.

It was more a riotous backlash than feedback though. -

That's a fair comment, but "listening to feedback" was their justification.

Registered 15 years agoI'm hoping they keep the free game offer post-launch. Nothing to suggest they will, of course, but I remain foolishly optimistic.
So in December, say, another allocation of consoles with a different downloadable game, then maybe same in March, etc. -

I'm thinking they'll keep up the bundles post launch. After the initial furore has died down they're still going to be £80 more expensive than the (currently) more popular PS4.
It's nice to see that both consoles this year come with bundled games, last gen it was pretty much just Hexic HD on 360. Nice to be able to just buy the console and have something to play on the thing without additional costs. Although I'll still up up paying another ton for a couple more games on top.
The One at least is £200 more than the last Xbox they launched.

Hmm interested by this "oh we never had phase 2 etc" preorders at Game, because we did for Xbox 360 and Wii, and the consoles before that. Ps3 .....we had tons of them and never ever came close to selling out. 360 was so bad that customers who were told it was guaranteed need up with core consoles without memory cards or hard drives as MS fucked up the allocation on delivery week....... PS3 onwards has been fine, Wii U was a manufactured shortage, knew we'd have free consoles from day one launch.......no one else wanted them!
I'll believe Sony and Ms can cover all these preorders when people actually get them! -

Registered 15 years ago@JiveHound The Xbox 360 was £280, so - technically, nit-pickingly - the One is £150 more expensive.
That's still EXPENSIVE, though

The Core 360 was £209 at launch. Granted it was pointless, but could still buy a 360 at launch for less than half the price of an XO.

@Britesparc Of course. I was thinking the One was £480 for a minute there.
Anyhoo, still quite a mark up. -

Registered 15 years ago@JiveHound I agree, I think if they could have made it £399 that'd still be expensive but psychologically more palatable.
I got the first Xbox in a bundle with Halo, PGR, and a second controller for £400. That'd cost me probably £550-600 with the One.
