    Hi all

I am currently reading up on the above phones :
    O2 XDA IIi
    & Sony Ericsson P910i
    (and their previous models)

I have been VERY impressed with my Sony PSP's TFT widescreen
,so much so that I would like to upgrade my current phone
(Nokia 6230) to a Phone \ Mobile PC that I can carry around with me.

My main hobbies are Photography & Movies.
So I would need a large but mobile display system so I can
view my high quality photo's taken with a Canon Eos 10D
    Camera and DVD Clips.

My 3 main concerns are :

    - Cost of Storage, my PSP memory stick cost me £50 for 0.5gb
Which is a bit of a stinger! Esp considering that my Ipod
    can store 40GB
Which mobile device would be most cost-effective in terms
of storage? the XDA or Sony Ericsson?

    - Display quality , which would have a better quality display. Not only that but... resistant to scratches.
The last thing I want is a large quality display with
    scratches on it.

    - Cost

I have short listed these 2 phones because of popularity.
I will check out the reviews online but if you are a user
of these devices I would like your opinions, both pro's and
    con's.

What other phones do you recommend?

    Cheers

I'd get a seperate phone and PDA. I had a P800 which was good but a too bulky for a phone and not as good a proper PDA. IMHO the p910 does not have as good a screen as Palm/Pocket PC PDAs I have seen.

I would buy a Dell Axim X30 624MHz Pocket PC(WiFi/Bluetooth/UK) for about £280 and then get a decent small smartphone like an Orange SPV C500.

I was hoping to do away with the Nokia since.....

My pockets are going to get really bulky with my :

    - Nokia
    - Ipod
    - PSP
    - PDA
    - Wallet
    - Oyster Card
    - Work ID Card Swipe
    - Spare Change
    - House Keys
    - Car Keys
    - Smint

(it's a good thing I've got a strong leather belt)

Thanks for the Dell Axim tip I hadn't thought of that device.
Gosh... I've got so much reading up to do!

The only media that is far cheaper, is stuff like compact flash, and not many phobes/pocket pcs take that...

What media do pocket pc's like Dell Axim & XDA IIi take?

If you want to get a funky phone, then I have got to recomend the iMate JAM. I bought mine online (with contact) from Expansys and didn't have a jot of trouble.

It's got Windows Mobile 2003SE, and Windows Media Player 10, and most codecs are supported. Only a 2.8" diagonal screen, but it's clear and sharp. I use a screen protector on mine, which stops most problems. It's got an SDIO slot, and my 512MB card cost under £40 (from Expansys again).

The only real downside is that the inbuilt camera, although 1.3 megapixels, isn't great quality. But unlike the XDAIIi, it's small enough so you don't feel like a twat holding it up to your ear when you actually use it as *gasp* a phone. It's actually a tiny bit smaller than the P910 too.

    /hugs iMate JAM

You could buy one of these for that, you know. It's been proven to work with the JAM (but I ghavne't got one yet).

Yeah, you can get WiFi-only SD cards, but the antenna bit does always stick out a bit; which I agree is a shame.

    Fun toy tho' :)

    smart media usually.

So devices like XDA \ and other pda's use the following
    memory storage ?

    Smartmedia Memory Card - £20

That's the highest capacity it'll go!
Damn... i can't get a decent movie on that.

I would have thought these things have a microdrive in
them like an ipod... I think i will just have to wait
a couple of years till technology catches up to my
    requirement.

It all seemed so good... flippin' the xda over to landscape
and enjoying an episode of "Band Of Brothers" during my
    lunch break.

Nah, most (modern) pdas (and certainly the XDA range and my iMate) all take SD (Secure Digitial) or MMC (Multi-Media Card) cards. They can get to at least 1GB (maybe 2GB, nowadays), so you can fit a few movies on with no problems :)

The PSP is something I don't have time for when I'm on the
go.I wouldn't take it out in public esp on london transport.
It would be nice to have a device that is just a widescreen
    like a XDA.

I found this MMC, the highest is 1GB i think,

eXpansys Memory 1GB Multi Media Card (MMC)

the 2gb one is discontinuedand is quite rare!

SD (Secure Digitial) I *think* are better than MMC cards. In any case, there is a 2GB one of those available 'on request'. 2GB is a *lot*, even for movies. I've got the Bourne Supremacy ripped down onto my JAM, and it weighs in at a very watchable 160MB.

Bear in mind that the JAM & XDA & Dell are not actually widesceen devices; the screens are 4:3 aspect, so if you want 'proper' widescreen you need borders; even in landscape mode.

150 smackerooneez for an sd card!
hmm something to think abt esp since a PSP will cost
    probably less than £179.

I think I will have to go on holiday to USA/Canada in the
summer and buy a few things abroad or as duty free.
It'll be cheaper plus i get a holiday.

£150 for a 2GB model, sure. But that's a *lot* of memory. My 512MB SD card was closer to £35-40, which is a lot more affordable. And have you seen prices for PSP Memory Stick Duos? £259.95 for 512MB!

That's why I prefer SD card storage :)

How large in mm x mm is the actual screen on the Jam?
Is it about the same size as the one on the SE 910i?
    Shame it's in 4:3 aspect.

I looking to buy either the p910i or Jam very soon.
