@ionic just waiting to exchange on ours but my experience is to def go with a broker.

Did a lot of the legwork, found a good deal for us and went from AIP to mortgage offer in 6 days.

@ionic Iíd never used one before but got advice from a good friend of mine in the business who recommended I use one. She gave me the numbe of a guy who gave me advice and who would only charge me if I used him and the products he recommended.

In the end, he got me a really good deal from a company Iíd never heard of and he halved the fee heíd agreed as it didnít take him long. Iíve always been wary of them before, thinking they were just charging for doing what I could, but he made it much easier and got me a better deal than I could have.

Anyone got any advice when it comes to mortgage brokers. Are they recommended?
Do you have to go with them or can you leave them and go direct if you find a better deal?
If you go for a whole market one, there shouldn't be any better deals. But definitely go with one as they do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Thanks guys. Is it better to use one that charge a nominal fee on mortgage offer (seem to be around £300) or look for one which just does commission (if they exist?)

@ionic Not sure. I can send you the details of the person I used. He was a nice guy and not pushy at all. As I say he was recommended to me by a very close friend who was pretty hot in the field (worked in PR for mortgages and has her own company, so she's got to know the field)

@quadfather Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo :-( .2 of those 5 draws are full of them but I'd have taken them off your hands.

Hey, you'll never guess what. I was looking for something a while ago, and I opened a box assigned to the tip and I found all those retro mags!

    Still want them?

Remind me in a couple of weeks to reply to this comment in more detail. People are fucking scum and we now live in a society where shame no longer exists. It's saddening.

@Psychotext we had a couple of cheap solar lights stolen from our drive a while back. My wife was sure they'd be safe and no one would take them 'as it's not that sort of village '. Next night they were gone. People will nick anything.

It wont be on the site. It would have been thrown in the back of a transit. Too heavy / awkward to manhandle away on foot.

Almost certainly one of the builders on the main site next to me.

Check you haven't switched the power to it off. I've never done that, made a scene and called out a heating engineer and looked like a complete cunt

The plumbers our builder used managed to make 3 of the 4 sinks they fitted, the underfloor heating manifold, a towel rail and the washing machine (twice) leak. Not a great feeling when you step on your fancy engineered wood floor and hear water squelching underneath it. Doesn't seem like the particular plumber we had most of the time is still working for them, unsurprisingly.

Piano's in! Relocated from upstairs down to the music room. Much better down there. House is slowly getting there and it's great just tweaking stuff as you go on

Sigh - happened to us, ordered a new recycling bin, with a LID! Nicked the next day. And they are FUCKING free from the council. Anyway using an abandoned recycling bin found in the street, sans lid. I guess you have to brand them sight away. 1st world problems and all that.

This wasn't a frozen condensate pipe was it? Had similar, but assume not because it's not been that cold.

    This apparently.

If your Ideal boiler is displaying the L7 fault code, it means the NTC thermistor on the flow hasnít measured a reading thatís increased by at least 5 degrees since the boiler ignited.

When this fault code is displayed on the control panel of your boiler, itís likely to have attempted to ignite 3 times before locking out.

Anyone have any experience with rockwool and kingspan?

We're getting the roof done in a couple of weeks and it definitely needs new insulation so we're going with one of the above options. The latter is more expensive (and harder to fit) but I've read it's a lot better long-term.

Anyone had both who can tell me if there's much of a difference?

@quadfather Sorry Quaddy, only just seen this (thanks notification feature). Yeah if you wouldn't mind, which ones do you have? I've got a lot more than I anticipated so may or may not have them.
