Choppi has. Well, "she"'s said she thinks going shopping or getting a tan is a more worthwhile use of a day off, which is as good as saying "you should only do what I think you should do, otherwise it's a waste"

Alright then, you can throw another sicky when the next GTA comes out six more years down the line then.

And you get sick pay anyway. A plan with no drawbacks, as long as no one from work has you on their friends list.
To be completely fair, not everyone actually gets sick pay these days, particularly those on minimum wage. Plenty of people have to put up with SSP, which is an utter pittance and only a couple quid more than being on jobseeker's (except without the rent/mortgage cover that housing benefit partially provides). I've worked in a few jobs where "actual" sick pay was only awarded after a year of service, others where it wasn't given at all, and another where it was given, but only for the first occasion in a rolling year.

I think it's a bit weird. I have taken time off for football matches before but that's because they are live, you can play a game any time you like.

Saying that though, I have taken sick days in the past to play games, although the game playing was just circumstantial, I just couldn't be arsed going in to work and couldn't go out in case anyone saw me.

Who'd have thought that such smooth operators would be out at this time on a Sunday morning?

Asking the forum to justify your decisions is more weird tbh.

There's nothing smooth about that. It is all too easy, as one would say.

If someone wishes to take a day off to play a (new) game, that's fine, I suppose ... not that I ever would.

To take a week or two off though?

Sorry, but that is super-duper sad.

Go somewhere (on holiday) and broaden your horizons.

The key is to schedule an oncoming doctor's appointment for the same day, necessitating the time off. Have it last thing in the day, whilst you've also scheduled an important ceremony attendance in the morning. Suddenly, there's just no point coming in anymore.

Hello Tuesday. (Yes I am off, but for honestly coincidental reasons. Didn't even realise what day it was I had off until the other day!)

Is there anything better than having a smoke on a Monday, playing GTA V and watching the new episode of Breaking Bad. Yeah, I'm not ashamed I took Monday and Tuesday off. In fact, I think I'll brag about it.

Also I have a wedding today, so I'll be hungover to fuck on Monday. Two birds and all that/
  • Deleted user 15 September 2013 08:38:59
In fairness it's not as bad as taking a day off because you know you'll have a hangover. Though that's somehow more socially acceptable.

    @Physically_Insane

Hell yeah, think I'll save Breaking Bad for as late as possible tomorrow (Monday) night and then wander off to a midnight release.

I reckon there has to be a mission involving a camper and drugs in GTA V :D

    There's only 1 thing I'd book a day off for - Stephansen's 2nd album.

I book a weeks holiday whenever there is a new WoW expansion. Probably wouldn't want to waste it on some game that I could complete over teh weekend though.

Taking a day off for a game is fine its up to you what you do with your holidays at work. A lot of people at my work need to take their holidays to cover child care when the the kids are off school. I've got no kids so my 28 days of holiday and 14 public days is far too much. I've got 12.5 days to take by the 23rd of December so I'm going to plan some time off around the x rebirth release or wastelands 2

Y'know I'd originally ordered off amazon with super saver delivery which mean't that I'd get GTA this thursday but I actually got sick on friday and I've had to take a week off work this week.

So now I'm debating if I should drive up to the remote game store on tuesday morning and just go and buy it. Funny how life opens a window at times...

Six weeks off in the summer. That's about as much as some people have off all year. And then always have xmas off. And then regular weeks in between.

Yes, they have a work to do at home outside of their normal hours. So do I. Boo fucking hoo.

Okay, Mr Sunshine. I didn't really want to come across as moaning about my lack of holiday time, just that it's a rare instance where I would love a day off in between. Working 9 weeks on the go in the constant glare of 30 ill children is a long time to go without a day off and it would be a lovely to thing to do sometimes, but I agree with your point about the holidays and feel very lucky to have that. I'm not trying to complain about the workload either, I adore my job and would do it for free if I could live! Just explaining my view and circumstances in response to the original poster.

Anyway, I am literally dreaming about GTA now.
