I still think FIFA itself will collapse long before 2022.

I await FIFA and Blatter to say, if you don't let us host in Winter your responsible for people dying or something along those lines.

Will the major Football Associations please just grow a pair and collectively tell FIFA to fuck off, at worst force their hand to change, at best destroy FIFA once and for all.

    So surprised.

    Blatter really is fool.

Platini isn't giving his watch back, either. Apparently we all get gifted watches from time to time and he's an educated man

Why? It'll implicate him, or at best his buddies who support him and he's king of the castle. FIFA are too corrupt for anything to change.

Qatar cleared of corruption. Didn't see that coming.

    No, they're utterly corrupt.

I really hope we just fuck FIFA off now and form a new association.

The FA is accused of damaging the image of Fifa? Are they really that fucking stupid? With or without this backhanded shite, their reputation was through the floor years ago!

There have been zero signs of anyone else standing up to them so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.
I wish that Switzerland would show some balls and kick the fuckers out and that the Eu would properly investigate them.

I don't doubt that the FA was playing the same game as the rest of them, but this does just seem to be a total whitewash - it's just laughable now.

Thing is, I don't know what the recourse would be. The FA are pretty much powerless, I'd love to hear them tell FIFA to stick it up their arse and withdraw but that would never happen. Let's just look forward to a Spring World Cup and all the major league complaining until they all receive massive 'sponsorship bonuses' that makes them all go quiet.
  • Deleted user 13 November 2014 09:50:54
Though id have no problem with us withdrawing from FIFA it wouldn't make any difference. They would quite happily go on without us and no other country would withdraw.
  • Deleted user 13 November 2014 09:53:07
If the whole of Uefa withdraws...

    I know that's unlikely though :(

If the FA really had the best interests of the game at heart, they'd take the short-term pain of withdrawl from all FIFA-affiliated competitions and co-ordinate with the government to negotiate repayments for the Wembley Stadium financial albatross.

Other associations would follow - not overnight, but they would. I guarantee it.

That this wouldn't even be considered is all we need to know about these self-serving organisations.

Even the guy who headed the investigation doesn't believe the report is truthful.

Dick Turpin had the courtesy of wearing a mask.

The only thing that is going to force change is if their sponsors continue to abandon them.

You can't force FIFA to change but you can, as a consumer, pressure sponsors into doing it for you.

Ironically, this is the perfect cause for a gamergate style 'consumer revolt'.

Hopefully the FBI is just getting their ducks in order before destroying them.

Not sure what Michael Garcia expected, surely he knows his job wasn't to scupper any plans and FIFA would get away with it.

There's a story up now on the bbc saying that the guy who conducted the inquiry is claiming that Fifa have misrepresented his findings.

They really are just the worst.

I heard the former sports minister on Five Live this morning. Sounds like the FA rather naively revealed all the info on their dealings for the 2018 bid.
Suspect Russia and Qatar basically said 'No, nothing odd happened. Goodbye'

Somehow it reminded me of the naivety of Ned Stark when he was in Kings Landing.

    On the BBC website.

The findings of Fifa's inquiry into allegations of corruption during bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups have been questioned - by the man who conducted the two-year investigation into the claims.
In an unexpected twist, lawyer Michael Garcia says the report "contains numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts and conclusions".

Someone say it a 4th time.

Read an interview with Garcia a few years back, before this all kicked off. Sounded as though he had forced FIFA to accept he would only act completely independently, and he came across as such.
