iOS 7 will be laggy on devices below iPhone 5s as it's not designed for those devices

  • Deleted user 22 September 2013 02:29:39
How does one edit the title of a thread on this forum?

The reason we've been experiencing some lag type issues on iOS devices since updating to iOS 7 is down to the fact that iOS 7 is designed for devices that we don't own at the moment.

Yes, we own iPhone 5‘s and iPads. But Apple have new products out now designed to run iOS 7 perfectly.

Unlike our devices which do run iOS 7 but it's not perfect.

    Good read here http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/09/iphone-a7-chip-benchmarks-forget-the-specs-it-blows-everything-away/

On the iPhone 5 it's extremely fast with bugger all lag.
  • Deleted user 22 September 2013 09:12:37
Strange, I haven't noticed any lag on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. Maybe my brain also has lag, and it evens out.

Runs great on my Mini, as it did on my 5.

Garbage, knee jerk, tabloid quality thread - well done OP! The Mail called, they want you back at the office, there's news on Diana coming in.

Well it's laggy on my mini.

The first time you open the mail app for a while, you can't click on anything for a good few seconds.

It's also laggy when you go back to desktop.

It's a little like that on my 3. I put it down to the gpu not being quite upto snuff in relation to the res. I'd hope future updates will speed it up a bit - of the two versions, iPad and iPhone, the former does feel slightly unfinished.

It's lag and stutter free on my iPhone 5. My iPad 3 drops frames during transitions but in terms of responsiveness it's about the same as iOS6 was.

The only bit of original writing in that Gizmodo article is that lag comment, which is wrong. Everything else is nicked from Anandtech. Still bitter about Apple not letting them get away with buying stolen goods, I think.

Not designed for those down on their luck?

Not designed for those dead at 35?

Not designed for those dangerous to society?

Not designed for those die-hard Android fans?

Yeah, that's actually a better description of how it runs on my 3. I think the deliberately slowish nature of the transitions, even on zippy hw, is exacerbated on older stuff as it's not as smooth as it ought to be.

    Otherwise known as lag!

Facebooks new app is also unusabley laggy now.

Not blaming apple for that tho.

Definitely lag, but it's only really confined to the transitions as apps/keyboard etc are working fine once loaded on my 3. Do get the impression it'll be improved a lot with a couple of point updates, it isn't nearly an ios4 on 3G situation, uurgh.

The iPad 3 is underpowered anyway. Too much resolution without the requisite bump in processing power to handle it - no wonder Apple junked it so fast in favour of the 4th gen. The 3 should never have been released.

I've got an iPad 3. 6 months after I bought it, Apple released the updated version. They then started pretending that my version had never happened.

The 3 is the red headed step child, but mine still runs fine tbh. Selling the 3 and the Mini and getting an iPad 5 though. I might have stuck with the 3 another year but I got a wifi which I've always regretted.

As for the Mini, if they did a pro version, retina/latest soc/ram etc I'd be in, but it's not going to happen and I don't want last years tech. Touch ID is only a possibility on the full sized one too.

I think any new iPads will have 64bit processors.

The Mini will probably be the A6 though won't it? Can't see an A7 retina mini appearing without a price hike - it'd please me, but not the masses I suspect.

The iPad mini may well have the innards of the iPhone 5c whilst the 'proper' iPad shall most likely share the same specification to that of the iPhone 5s.

... and I think that is perfectly fine to be honest!

Most important thing is for both iPad models to keep to their promise of 9-10 hours of battery life.

I can't remember the last time I saw you post anything that wasn't insulting/trolling/angry. Do you ever lighten up? Jesus Christ man, fucking relax. You don't need to post in every thread you don't like. What are you, a sadist?

New version is faster than old version?

    Quell surprise.
  • Deleted user 22 September 2013 16:23:50
Would have thought new version, being more feature ambitious, would be slower logically.
