So my second actifry has gone tits up within 18 months and I am not getting another(*). Great concept and the results were always impressive but the build quality is worse than a gen 1 360. Considering either a Philips Airfry or a halogen oven (with airfry attachment). Cooking for 3 wasn't too bad with the Actifry as it had up to a 1.5kg capacity. Lots of broken chips meant actual yields were much lower but the volume of the bowl meant I could use it for other stuff, like chicken thighs. I doubt I would get the same amount of chips from the Philips (.8kg capacity) but eliminating the 20% wastage I experienced from the Actifry would help. Not going to do much more than chips though; the bowl doesn't have much surface area so it would be limited to sausages or chicken dippers. The halogen option looks good as it could do pretty much anything. Not sure about chips though; the 3rd party attachments get good reviews but even with a larger cooking surface I'm not convinced I would get a full dinner's worth in one cook. So, does anyone have experience with these gadgets? (*)Argos 3 year warranty was useless. As they were not stocking the same colour as my broken one, they refused to replace it and only offered a gift voucher for the original (sale) price paid. To get the replacement promised by the cover I would have had to give them an extra £40. To get the same item, in a different colour. FFS. Edited by TheRealBadabing at 22:06:47 23-09-2013 |

What is this grey-vee you speak of? Do I need goose fat? -

Registered 15 years agoMy nephew has one of those air fryer things. Takes a while to get the cooking technique right but some really good results when you do.
Can't speak for using it for a family though. I'd imagine it would be too small.

@mal You have no idea what my diet is like. Even so, I am pretty sure that your sagely advice would be more relevant in a thread discussing the joys of deep fat fryers. -
Halogen? Is that the grown-up equivalent of that kids' oven that cooks beans in a week under a light bulb? -

What if he wants something tastier than ricecakes every day?
Replace it with a healthier diet.
See, it's easy to make sarcastic comments based on pre-conceptions.
Fun too. -
Then he can put quinoa jam on his ricecake. -
(fun fact - it's "keen wah", not "qwin oh ah" )

They do take about 20 minutes, but then so does my oven. You'll never get the speed of dunking something in ridiculously hot fat.
Don't they take like 20 mins to cook chips, and are dead noisy? That always put me off...
They're not particularly noisy though.

@Psychotext after seeing videos like that and other assorted reviews, my suspicions about capacity are confirmed for the Philips. No way 4 drumsticks (or equivalent) would feed my lot, so I'm getting a halogen thingy with a airfry attachment whatsit.
Will give some impressions when it arrives but if nothing else it will be a lot more reliable than the actifry. -
Glad to have been of assistance.
