So reading the show thread...Great episode. The whore and the the no dick were in on some kind of scheme to get him free surely? Or they may have known about the nights watch thing. Their actions seemed so out of character that it's either a scheme or bad writing. Anyway take your book cunting somewhere else.Uh, perhaps I'm being unfair, but isn't it really really fucking obvious why they were acting out of character? I mean, let's start with Shae. Tyrion got rid of her, she's really fucking pissed. Jaime himself says during the trial that Cersei's been canvassing everyone to ensure a conviction. Hence the Night's Watch deal. Last episode we saw Cersei buttering up all the judges. It doesn't take a massive leap of logic to conclude that Cersei has threatened Shae / given her money to take advantage of Tyrion upsetting her. She knows who Shae is - she points her out to Tywin at the wedding. And Varys. Varys isn't a moron, he knows that Tyrion is going to lose the trial. There is nobody supporting Tyrion, so how suspiscious is it going to look for him to start sticking up for Tyrion? There's literally nothing in it for him. |

Registered 9 years ago@DUFFKING I took Shae's actions to be mostly out of spite. She just didn't get that Tyrion was trying to save her life by white-fanging her (brilliant phrase I learned recently. I'm so with the times!). After all, he did say some very mean things to her when she (I think) genuinely did like him.
I reckon she didn't need very much coercion into betraying him. A woman scorned and all that... -

Registered 15 years agoYeah, I find it interesting how different it's played out from the books despite ending up in the same overall place.
Shae seemed to blatantly be "just a whore" in book - she was clearly just with Tyrion for his money, making it easy for us to reason why she'd betray Tyrion like that. She seemed to actually like him in the show, so they really had to have Tyrion hurt her for it to make sense. -

Registered 15 years agoI think we have seen Shae true colours. Perhaps she did love him once, but theres always been something there that screamed untrust worthy to me. -

Registered 10 years agoWith Shae its not what she's saying by the look giving the whole time. Especially her eyes.
Of course how they will explain her in Tywins bed is still a guess because in the books she was using Tyrion but the show has made it seem she truly loves him. -

Registered 14 years agoMost TV shows do have a plot which plays out over an episode. There is an overall story but you could watch an episode in isolation.
GoT is an ongoing narrative with no end. -

I prefer it that way, tired of shows like Supernatural that are to focused on telling one story in a episode. This often leads to a slow crawling overarching plot.
Lost had the best of both, untill it became clear that the creators had no clue how to end the serie.

Registered 17 years agoGreat episode last night. I'm enjoying the series more than the books at this point.
It's a pity about the 2 week wait but hey, we'll get a nice big battle at the wall soon.

Registered 14 years agoThey have done well to keep it interesting. Although I am fairly sure we are still on book 3 for the most part? (Or is it just King's Landing?)
Is Briane already doing book 4 stuff? I thought her adventures with Podrick were later?
So a lot of boring book 4 stuff is still to come? -

Registered 17 years agoI'm nto sure to be honest. I read the books and forgot most of what is in them and can't really make sense of what happens in what book and such.
I thoroughly enjoy watching it all play out in the series though. More than I enjoyed reading the book really. -

Another tease as well in regards to Shireen. -

So far no but I wonder if her royal blood will be used to bring Jon back? This would of course be the final straw for Stannis who is already getting impatient with her and The Lord of Light and TV Stannis has shown a clear love for her.
I don't remember Shireen ever amounting to anything in the books... Or anyone else either now I think of it. -

Registered 14 years agoDid anyone else enjoy seeing the reaction to crunch time from the TV only viewers, it's been so hard to not spoil that fight over the last few weeks.
Loads of good scenes in that episode and some fun hints at future stuff, like Baelish's chamberpot line. I was slightly disappointed by Jorah's exile, seemed to lack the punch that the scene has in the book, maybe just because it was overshadowed by everything else.
I also now want a House Bolton banner. -

Registered 14 years agoTo be honest I think it lacks punch because that side of the water isn't as blessed as Westeros is in terms of acting chops.
Also: am I right in thinking that the series is starting to overtake the books in terms of the Sansa arc? -

Registered 15 years agoIt is a bit yeah. I think they're streamlining it a bit. Plus y'know, there's been like 3 Sansa Chapters in 10 years

Registered 20 years agoI've avoided the show, but since everyone's been on about the head-splattering scene I felt obliged to see how bad it really was.
...why does the Mountain look like an angry Wayne Rooney, rather than some giant beast clad head-to-toe in armour? -

To be fair he is 6 foot 8 and is apparently the 3rd strongest man in the world. The original guy they cast probably looked a bit better but he left the show. The second guy they cast was crap and just looked like a beanpole. It's hard to find tall people who are big too.
