Just reacting to the board-game discussion, as a board game fan myself, I was wondering if any of you guys have played Agricola? In my opinion, it is the best board game ever - I must have played it hundreds of times, it is just absolutely brilliant. (There's also an iOS version as well.) It is relatively complex to learn, but the pay-off makes it easily worthwhile.
If not, have you played any of the 'German-style' board game genre? In general, these are vastly superior to traditional British board games (Monopoly, Cluedo, Risk, etc.) The most popular are probably The Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Puerto Rico and Ticket to Ride (all of which are excellent, although none of them come close to Agricola.)
If you haven't played any, you're massively missing out! The Settlers of Catan is probably the best place to start, as the first German-style board game to acheive large-scale commercial success, and it is usually credited with making the genre popular in other countries.
