I went through 4 of the blasted things thanks to the shitty cd drive not reading the games. -

Registered 15 years agoYeah same here for the upside down trick. I ended up securing my PS to the underside of my shelf to get the games to load. -

My original one still works. I got it out of the loft the other week and it's so chunky and retro-looking, it's awesome! And the pads feel tiny. I even found a couple of original digital ones without analogue sticks. -
Remember having to buy memory cards just so you could save your game progress? Those were the days. -

Registered 13 years agoThe only time I had to position the console other than normally, was for pirated games.

Registered 15 years agoStill got some of the old style pads knocking around as well as some of the third party ones which HMV used to give away free with certain game purchases.
Oh the memories of going game shopping after work on a Friday afternoon and not thinking twice about buying 2 or 3 titles at full £44.95 price.
Wouldn't dream of doing that today. -

I remember trying one and hating it and thinking that analogue control would never catch on. And then ended up buying a DualShock about six months after they came out because practically everything was requiring it by then.

One of the worst things about this era was seeing all those great-looking Japanese games that the US got and then having to sit there for 12 months while someone decided whether or not to bother with a PAL conversion. And then invariably decided to go with 'not', so you ended up buying an import for far-too-much money and having to mod the damned console. -
I remember the Negcon. Never actually used one but I refuse to believe it was any good for playing racing games with. -

Playing Mario 64, then Crash Bandicoot, and thinking the latter was shit.

The only one that ever had concave sticks, like a sensible stick designer would make.

Haha, I had an upside down PS1 too, didn't realise it was that common. -
Feels like this thread title is deliberately trying to goad me. Luckily enough, I have no real problem with it. -

Registered 9 years agoI remember having to give my games a 'jump start' to get them to work on my original Playstation. I had to manually spin the game in the disc tray, quickly close the lid and push the power button to get them going. Good times. -

Registered 15 years agoI remember buying the new analogue controller when it came out from Dixons in town. I'd not long since been made redundant at the time and was a bit hesitant about spending any money. But Gran Turismo was the first major title (I think) to support it and I couldn't resist. Those replays were amazing at the time.
Good times. -
