I believe Microsoft have recently taken control of trackpad drivers, away from (typically) Synaptics et al, so it's entirely possible there may be some serious improvement incoming on the Windows side in the not too distant future.

The trackpad on my 09 mbp is better than any fancy mouse I've used. -

Having said that I've never used a MacBook. -
It's patent related too, I seem to recall reading Apple had a load of the good stuff sewn up.
