Had a crack at this this afternoon and actually really enjoyed it. Like the Saturday afternoon cartoon vibe, but it also has a nice overall sci-fi feel, which is a nice change from most MMOs.

Unfortunately, as much fun as I had, the lag/stuttering is unbearable in places. It literally freezes for few seconds every second in some of the hub areas. Knocked it on the head for now because of it.
  • Deleted user 29 March 2014 18:22:20
FPS or lag? I think some people have had serious issues on certain setups. It's not optimised yet, annoyingly.

I don't really know. It's absolutely fine most of the time with everything cranked up, but when I get to a hub area with the main quest giver etc, it stutters like a bastard and I warp around a bit. Think its a combo of both, which is bit weird as it's not exactly a graphically intensive looking game, plus there never seem to be that many other players around me.

Enjoying the combat though. Even my medic can hold his own in a crowd.
  • Deleted user 29 March 2014 19:50:16
I get lower framerates in hubs, as you'd expect, but not stuttering and all that. Weird. I'd hope that on release it'll be better.

    What realm/faction/name are ye?

Character's called Claxxon and I'm palling up with the evil Dominion, purely because of those horrendous rabbit people the Exiles have.

I completely forgot to pick a server, which may well be part of my issue. Will check in a bit and let you know though.
  • Deleted user 29 March 2014 20:44:00
They're all US based for this beta weekend, so probably not that.

I agree about the Aurins. Exile are cool except them - humans, big rock dudes, zombies... rabbits. Some people like them... ;)

The technical problems seem to effect people in different ways, not surprising when consider how far from launch. Ive seen in chat people with more powerful PCs than mine having problems although personally i have had no problems.

Some seem to try and find a common link, but doesn't appear to be one at this stage. You see people say well i have x so must be that then another has y. I doubt this is indicative of the final product although of course with it being an MMO there will be flaws at the start in some way or another.

And the Aurin are adorable you cold heartless bastards, although i do like the Chua also. I mean come on the Aurin NPCs even say "today is free hugs day" how can you beat that? Must say the character animation is brillant, how when firing guns the little quirky smile my Chua gets. Or when concentrating they bite there lips. Its the little details like that that show up old MMOs whose engines just cant do that.

    Where dem servers at? :)

Going to give Warrior a bit more of a try this time around I think, and try out the Dom starting area. I'd intended to do this last time but was loving my Exile Stalker and SpellSlinger too much.
  • Deleted user 4 April 2014 17:33:22
Were on Nexus, I plan to make a stalker this weekend. Might also do another couple levels on my Spellslinger. And try out settler, surprised that Explorer isn't for me thought that was a set thing but preferred scientist.

Once that's all done I will be set for launch,
  • Deleted user 4 April 2014 17:46:09
Probably won't play that much, reaching the point of saturation/don't want to spoil it. I heard they were tweaking the 20 dungeons to be accessible to both factions via LFG, which means I can do Kel'Voreth without coast-running through Dominion factions/levelling up my Dommy warrior any further. Might not be in this weekend, however.

Watching the panel from PAX. Getting stupidly hyped - it's all about the end game stuff, some awesome things: Warplots, artefact gear with 'imbuements' (i.e. gear 'quests' - I LOVE these - some of which sound insane - e.g. two 40 man raid bosses down at same time, etc), Elder Germs backing up normal PvE/PvP progression so you're not at the mercy of loot gods, but still require progression, solo lore instances, etc etc. Squeee.

Are you sure hyping yourself is a good idea? Just makes the wait longer and can only be disappointed.

I gave the Stalker and Settler a very brief try last weekend. Actually thinking Stalker might be for me as i like being quick, good news for you as you will have a tank to call on :), assuming your still healing. But ill still put in a little more before final decision.

As for Settler i quite like it but i think need more time with it before deciding.

Woah that video. Ok iam now excited too, damm you!

Anyone in this weekend? How is the new HUD/ui?
  • Deleted user 13 April 2014 12:27:46
There's no servers up this weekend. New UI patch is out, though. There's some shots/clips of it online, looks nice - is less 'blocky' in lower-mid part of screen, spreads stuff out a bit.
  • Deleted user 13 April 2014 14:50:44
Here you go, new UI and some reasons behind it.

Got the client downloaded ready for this weekend's beta (think it should be up by now) for my first taste of WS.

Going in with a very open mind as have only been following bits and bobs, so not really sure what to expect. Looking forward to it though!
  • Deleted user 26 April 2014 18:31:54
Curious that you take issue with the animations, personally i think they are one of its strengths. But fair enough if you have been playing Dark Souls, the animations are very typical MMO like. Also maybe try a different race, they all feel and move a bit different.

How much time did you put into those three classes? I dont think any class plays well till lvl10 atleast. You simply don't have enough skills to make it fun till then.
  • Deleted user 26 April 2014 20:12:25
Medic animations are cool. Game improves over time, IMO, but won't be for everyone.

God i cant wait for Wildstar to get its own EU servers. The Americans can be so ignorant sometimes.

In zone chat there was the usual guild adverts and one person asked to join, they said no as he was EU. As this was playing out in zone chat i thought i would ask, "what's Europe got to do with it?" the reply was that they 'dont speak proper english'. Oh the irony, Americans thinking Europeans don't speak English.
  • Deleted user 27 April 2014 10:43:27
They announced that 'special characters' could be used in player names, leading to the US players saying 'buuuhh why??? nobody uses them?!?!?!'.

    Hello, Europe.
  • Deleted user 27 April 2014 12:41:37
Well to be fair to the yanks the characters are a pain. Sure i get they are part of other languages but really if everyone doesn't have them on their keyboards it becomes annoying typing peoples names.

Anywho, put more time into Stalker and i am pretty sure iam playing that now as a tank, if i have a healer buddy :)
  • Deleted user 27 April 2014 16:54:44
    I'm your healer buddy!

Yes, it's annoying for them to type (although the game has some sort of 'Smart name' system where you can type a name replacing unusual symbols with equivalents, and it works it out...?), but it's the usual parochial nonsense.

Managed to squeeze in a few hours on this over the weekend for the first time, here are my initial thoughts:

It seems to take have taken most of the things that made WoW a success and then added improvements from other MMOs. I like the setting and I like the cartoony graphical style and the active combat too.

I didn't like the UI (very cluttered at times), quests felt a bit all over the place, text was difficult to read and it was quite buggy (Datachron screen not hiding, couldn't interact with quest items) but I suppose that's to be expected in beta.

Overall it seems promising. I'm wondering if personally I'm a bit jaded on MMOs now as it didn't really grab me like I felt it should, although that may have been because I didn't get any further than lvl 10. Does anyone know if there are any more scheduled beta weekends?
  • Deleted user 27 April 2014 22:24:45
This weekend was actually an extra weekend. Here are the set dates, but more will probably be added. But you get next weekend at least.

    http://wildstar.mmorpg-life.com/news/wildstar-beta-weekend-access/

The new UI lets you drag and drop skills in the action builder, yay!
