My birthday's coming up and my current mobile (an 8310) is on it's last legs. So, recommend me a new mobile phone. It'll be used for calls to other mobiles and texts, mainly. I care about: Looks Size Ease of use I don't care about: Games Calculators Radios All the other superfluous stuff that gets thrown in these days. I'm not particularly bothered about whether it is contract or sim free or whatever, but if possible I'd like to stick with my current sim. |
A new phone, recommendations plez.

Registered 17 years agoI've got a Nokia 6100.
Makes calls and sends texts, is tiny and looks very nice. Does none of the other crap. -

They are small and very very cool. If they weren't damn expensive for people who don't need huge contracts I'd have one. -

+1
If you don't care about any other 'features' it's about one of the smallest and sleakest about.
If you like your 'extras' on a mobile, The Orange SVP c500 is VERY hard to beat... And it's very small too! -

When you say you don't care about games, is that just rubbish mobile games? If so, get an SPV C500 and you can run ScummVM and play Sam and Max on your phone. -
I'll say what I always say. Don't get a Motorola. They may look pretty and appear to have good features, but they are very gimmicky, have poor build quality, the worst user interface ever and lack useful basic features like infra red/bluetooth etc
Honestly, I've yet to meet someone who has got one and not regretted it. Plus, they may look sexy at first, but they look cheap and tacky once they've been in your pocket a month or two.
I always get either Nokia or Sony Ericsson, and as a general rule go for the functional phone over the feature filled one. At the end of the day they are for making calls on. Right now I have a 6230, and its fine. -

Registered 18 years agoMe? Well I will be picking up a Samsung D500 but if you dont want all the bells and whistles they do a nice smaller and lighter version with a pretty average camera called the Samsung SGH-E630. Only downside is they are both supposed to be a bit cack if you send a lot of texts as the keypad is a bit flat for fat fingers like mine.
I liked the motorola V3 but then i have only had a play and dont actually own one. -

T-Mobile. Previously one2one.
I like the look of the 6610i. -

Registered 20 years agoIts a smallish no frills phone but IMHO its not much of a looker.
The 7250 is a bit smaller but does not have a radio and its quite nice - not sure if its still widely available tho.
Another option is the Sony Ericsson T630 which is very nice in the looks department - its smaller than the 6610i as well.
The Nokia 3220 is another smallish phone but very basic - apart from it can flash different colours when it rings - looks like a 70s disco.
T Mobiles website seems a bit low on phone options. -

Registered 17 years agoK700i's not bad. T630 or any of the T class SEs suck balls.
The Nokia 6230 seems alright, too. -
N-Gage! \o/
(Well, someone had to)
Most 'portrait' Nokia phones have the same Symbian OS allowing you to use groovy apps like ebook readers and... emulators (what do you mean, you saw that coming a mile away...?) -

Registered 19 years agoLooks like it's the K700i.
I like the simplicity of the design, and from what I can tell the menues aren't a problem.
