Same here Neilka. uBlock Origin on scorched earth settings, firefox, zero pop-ups, like I've already reported a while back.
Am I the chosen one?

I wouldn't mind, but all the ads are super obnoxious (also Taboola is the fucking worst)
Hey, about Adblock! You've read 5 pages without ads on Eurogamer this week. Please disable your adblocker to continue.
Having a fucking laugh.
We appreciate that ads can be annoying, but they are the thing that keeps Eurogamer running. We are committed to keeping ads as unobtrusive as possible and adhering to the Better Ads standard - in exchange, please consider whitelisting us so that we can continue providing editorial at no cost to you.
Allow ads on Eurogamer.net

Registered 16 years agoHeh, thats pretty funny. If you block the element, the page loads fine then dumps this over the top of it:
Page cannot load
Possible reasons why this is happening:
There is a network connectivity issue.
One or more of your browser extensions (e.g. ad blockers, script blockers) is interfering with the page.
How to fix this:
Try checking your network connection and refreshing this page. If the issue persists, try turning off one or more of your browser extensions and refreshing the page again. -

Registered 12 years agoYep same here, totally taking the mickey. Implementing something like this without any warning especially considering the dialogue we've had on here.
Decks' adverts are making it almost worth it though.

The dramatic increase in inflammatory clickbait, bottom-of-the-barrel ads and now anti-Adblock measures in recent times does make me wonder how the site's doing. I know blah blah nostalgia it never used to be like this... but it really didn't.

No it hasn't. Eurogamer started free. If it had been behind a pay wall I doubt it would have got much traction.

To be fair, that's the kind of attitude that got us into this predicament. How else would you pay for your consumption of this site?
I wouldn't pay for a subscription.
Personally I would just find another site. I come here for the forum. The news can be found elsewhere.
I am also finding that Eurogamers tastes and opinion pieces differ greatly from my own (destiny, destiny, destiny!).
Digital Foundry videos are also starting to grate. How many videos can keep going on and on about framerates?
In summary, only the forum and DF Retro do it for me. -

He wouldnt. He would, presumably, just fuck off to one of the other thousand videogame sites on the internet. No one would pay for a sub to EG. It simply doesnt provide enough unique content or offer a strong enough USP to get people to put their hands in their pocket.

I find it hard to believe that Eurogamer was ever a completely free site, free of any ads, all suported by volunteer work and the milk of human kindness.

If there were ads in the beginning, I find it hard to believe those are as profitable nowadays as they were back then. In no small part thanks to adblock software.
What I don't find hard to believe is those thousands of other videogame sites on the internet not rapidly dwindling in quality and number if this keeps up. I'm willing to support Eurogamer.
What we can all agree on, is that we're not going to support this incarnation of Eurogamer if it keeps up. -

A VPN doesn't stop uBlock from working, it's not there in the first place. I'm on a corporate network at work, everything is routed through a VPN in the States which filters out any social media/porn/malware/whatever they feel like blocking, this seems to set the popup off. I cannot (without actual written permission) install any addons on my machine, so there is none to disable.
I don't follow, how does being on a VPN stop uBlock from working? -
I have to agree that it wouldn't be worth the sub at all. They have barely anything at all that isn't just reporting on a press release or rumour. Even for that hey are usually well behind gamespot or IGN. Other than DF what do they really do content wise? -

There's the occasional decent article, but even those are pretty rare these days. I only come here to read the news out of habit, but I don't know why really. I've usually already read it hours (and sometimes days) before somewhere else. Force of habit after so many years I suppose. The truth is, Eurogamer blinking out of existence wouldn't really be a big deal any more. Digital Foundry is its own entity and would no doubt continue on elsewhere. Eurogamer has been trying to push their utterly shite Youtube channel for a long time, yet the one unique and beloved selling point of the site is on a completely different one. Which now has more subs than the Eurogamer one, incidentally. I guess Richard was smart enough to realise how valuable he and his team's content is when working that deal out.
Other than DF what do they really do content wise?
