Registered 19 years agoWhats the deal with this no mans sky AUDIO playing every time I move to a new page on EG - either forums (!) or the reviews.
That sort of caper makes me reach for adblock.
Is it happening for everyone ? -

uBlock Origin managed to get rid of it eventually.
What's with the Blade Ballet ad?
ZE ADBLOCKERS DO NOTHING
Is this some hideous new ad tech that blockers can't deal with?

Registered 18 years agoYeah but seriously, trying to force people to have adverts is just going to be an arms race. Now I have to get uBlock.
You look at the forum space compared to a few years ago and it keeps getting squeezed down and down to make room for these awful adverts.
Way to make your regulars feel valued. -

Registered 5 years agoBah, that ugly ad! Can we do a compromise and do something like - click on an ad and it goes away for 24 hours? I'd rather do that than install another ad blocker. -
@Load_2.0 I get it, but putting my corporate hat on for a second I could write a counter response along similar lines:
Yeah but seriously, trying to force companies to circumvent Adblocking is just going to be an arms race. Now we have to find new ways to stop it.
You look at the revenues compared to a few years ago and they keep getting squeezed down and down to make room for these awful adblockers.

@Blurp that is not a bad idea. Will run it up the flagpole. -

Depends how you view the forum, is it a resource full of active EG supporters producing endless free content for EG, perfect and completely underutilised for feedback and product testing and market research?

Or is it simply a squabbling pen full of geese ready to be constantly force fed advertising corn ready for Ecosse to consume? -
I can see that you're hinting at a different way to keep the lights on -- what did you have in mind specifically? -
Yay, advertising corn! -

Registered 17 years agoThe great thing about advertising corn is that it comes out the other end undigested. You can then rinse it and re-feed it to the geese! -

If there is one thing people on the forum like its shoving their opinion in someones face.

If I had a game, accessory, service or a related product and I wanted feedback here is a seething mass of consumers all to willing to give their opinion. No need for a £500 grocery voucher or win a free iPhone just complete this survey. People here would happily debate the value of adding paprika to a stew for ten pages.
Adding a product research/feedback category might be something of value to Corporation X. Whether it would hit the same revenue streams as advertising I have no idea. Or whether we are even still the right demographic given all the old bastards that live here.
Would you have issues with people posting images of goatse and calling each other front bottoms? Yes of course, especially at the start but I think after a while if people felt they actually contributed to improving something that would settle.
Anyway just a wild idea whilst I sat viewing the colourful abomination that dominates the page. -

Why would the pay for this though. Enough of us are idiotic enough (I was front of the queue when god was giving out dumb dumbs) to fill out every survey I get through my electronic post box relating to games because 'ooohhhh they cares about my opinion'. FYI they don't

Ads are a million times better on here than on IGN!
At least here i only ever click through to the ad provider when i actually want the product. -
I just want to reassure you adblockers that the ads you are now seeing follow an extremely strict set of rules on the limits of size, no data capabilities & lack of animation etc
But more importantly we focus on the content here, you may not want the game, but however you look at it, this is still a game which is relevant to our interests - we at EG recognised this and noticed that a large amount of ad block technologies also offer ad products and they shovel poor quality ads, we want to achieve the opposite. Its about saying we need to reclaim impressions to continue providing you this free content and if we are going to do so we are going to do this responsibly with only the right clients and stick to a set of rules that ensures our readerships high standards are met.
Myself and Craigy are always open to feedback here and I can assure you it is taken very seriously so please if you have something constructive or ideas you consider worth our attention then please always share with us here so we can discuss with you personally. -
@Graxlar_v2 "Better than IGN" is not the highest bar to hurdle though
