Suprised no one has started a thread about this yet.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW :-

    1. The man is a talentless oaf.

2.Angels is a song so poor that Celine Dion would probably turn it down for being 'a bit too slushy and over sentimental'.

    3. The Brits are voted for by woefully out of touch record execs who had to give Williams some kind of award in the hope of giving him some extra publicity to justify the £80,000,000 advance they paid him (approx $150M) - yet the jackass has still to break America.

    4. The one good thing about the Brits this year is they started rewarding interesting acts who actually play their own instruments and write their own music (The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, The Scissor Sisters)...

    5. ...Apart from Robbie Williams whose song angels was actually written for him by Guy Chambers...whom he no longer speaks to.

    6. 90% of Mr Williams fans are '30 something' women who beleive that being 'a bit cheeky'+'a bit sexy'+'being able to dance...sort of'= major musical talent.

    7. Guess what ? They're wrong.

    8. Williams is now so desperate to break the US that he's started appearing in movie cameos. Seen any of them ? Thought not.

    That is all.

"Angels" was voted winner by the listeners of Radio 2, not music execs. I hereby declare your rant : pointless.

P'raps he'll break the US off the back of the Magic Roundabout film...

    then again p'raps not.

I fucking hate him, I fucking hate that song. A whiny dirge which instantly springs to mind in the brains of sheep who partake in such stupid surveys. Knee-jerk a question at some stupid sap walking down the street and because the bandwidth speeds of their brains only work at 9600 baud they'll instantly answer "Robbie Williams - Angels" when prompted for "best song written in the past 25 years"

For that, I am attaching a snowplough to the front of my car with fucking THISTLES spot welded onto it, and I'm going on the rampage in the nearest shopping precinct with the fucker... "Cars that Ate Paris" style..

    Thats worse !

Actually my point was the creation of the award - not who voted for it. Although I'm sure its not a fix.

Didn't The Streets win Best Male Solo act. That's right, a band won a Solo award.

I think that shows the general intelligence of the voting public.

Nah he's called "the streets" - the chavvy bloke is solo, but calls himself "the streets"

I know, it didn't make much sense to me either.

I obviously don't loathe 'Angels' as much as some (don't particularly like it, but it doesn't make me froth at the mouth like some of the other awful shite in the chart), but best song in the last 25 years?

What the fuck are they on?

Goes to prove once and for all that the average man on the street can remember nothing that happened more than five years ago.

Radio 2 listeners you are fucktards. Somehow I cannot comprehend how Angels is thought to be better than Love Will Tear Us Apart (not even Joy Division's best song IMO). The selection was pretty poor and narrow, though.

I'm not so sure Franz Ferdinand play there own instruments, have you heard their live set at the Brits? It was TERRIBLE - the guitar playing was dire (and I'm no expert) and *I* sound better singing Take Me Out on Singstar Party then they did last night.

    Shocking!

I'm just glad it wasn't Will Young - what the hell was he doing in the final five?!

I could pick three or four oasis songs, a couple of stereophonics, and a couple of verve songs that are 10 times better than fecking Angels!

This would have been my shortlist - heavily skewed towards my own tastes of course :D

    Joy Division - Atmosphere
The Smiths - There is a Light That Never Goes Out
The Cure - Pictures of You
    New Order - True Faith
Manic Street Preachers - Motorcycle Emptiness

    Angels...pfft!

We can't say - it's a stupid award. There are so many songs and so many different styles, how can you possibly say that any one is 'better' than another one.

It's like saying "what's the best game ever?" - you just can't do it. Most successful ever - that's easy. But 'best'? It's too subjective.

Choosing from the nominations is fairly difficult, Joy Division is the obvious one, or Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush but with the rubbish nominations it was always going to be Robbie Williams, he is the safe easy choice, just like Radio 2.
