Looks so pretty. Gutted this is out a week after the ps4 launch, otherwise it be a day one purchase. Hope they do a pretty good print run of it. -

Registered 15 years agoThe visuals remind me FF III on the DS. Never did finish that one.
Checked out the Deluxe Edition, wow, that's expensive for a 3DS game! -
It does look gorgeous. There's a lot coming out around Christmas that I want to pick up. Not sure I can afford this one as well. -

Registered 14 years agoIf you didn't watch the Direct, earlier, a demo for this will be up sometime today, though no sign in eshop when I checked just now. -

Registered 12 years agoI'll have to check out the demo - I have the LE pre-ordered.
Because I'm mental. -

Registered 10 years agoThe LE's a bit pricey for me, I'm afraid. Not even asking for it as a birthday pressie! Does look nice though. -

Registered 13 years agoJust had a little bash on the demo, very nice presentation, lots of detail and it seems like there is loads to do. I am impressed -
I've got the demo downloading whilst i'm at work. Hope it's good! -

Registered 20 years agoTwenty minutes on the demo have pretty much sold this. Feels like someone popped into an alternative dimension where Final Fantasy 9 was such a smash hit, the series followed its example, rather than devolve into a graphics-obsessed mess desperate to win back the FF7 crowd... -

Registered 12 years agoI did always think this looked very FFIX, visually.
I tried to download the demo yesterday night only to find my SD card was completely full. I thought I might as well just wait a few weeks and play the full game, but a friend played it and just told me there's stuff in the demo that isn't in the full game and you can carry things across.
Guess I'll have to dig around for another SD card then! -

Registered 14 years agoI'm actually finding the demo is making me have second thoughts about my pre-order for this: for starters, it makes the cardinal sin of not uniformly using either the slider or the d-pad, making you switch back and forth (something I similarly hate about the eshop, where you can navigate most parts with the controllers but are then forced to switch to the touch screen in others). I then find the Brave/Default mechanic is breaking the game, it ends up making you either completely overpowering or totally crippled, with it becoming a "crystal ball required" situation when fighting more powerful enemies because there are no feedback clues; I like turn-based games because they give you a controlled structure to play within, this is making it chaotic instead. -
I'm not disapointed, but i'm not overly impressed either. Perhaps i'm just overwhelmed or confused. To begin with, I was having to go rest between every battle. That was most likely due to not having bought any armour before setting off on my first quest, but also because i'm not sure how to go about using this Brave/Default mechanic.
For a while, I thought it best to just go on an all out assault, but unless you kill the enemy first you'll get your ass handed to you. So now I tend to attack or 'default' until I feel i'm in a position in which I can out-right kill the enemy. But even that isn't a sure way to fight as i'll still lose a character to a freakishly strong attack. I think my first battle was with a cat that could do 300 damage in a single attack, so could technically kill any one of my characters twice over.
My second issue is with the second mission, in which you have to battle Imps at night. Is there no way to sleep until the evening? I had to stand still on the world map until night came so I could fight a particular enemy. If I fought any battles during that time, I risked losing a lot of health, or even a character. Even though i'm level 5. If I want to restore my health, it resets the time again, meaning I have to wait all over again.
Edit - Just went to the cave at level 5 and got completely wiped out. I'm really not up for grinding in a demo, so that's pretty much me done. I'll hang around and see what folk think when the full game comes out, but it's the demo hasn't particularly wowed me, unfortunately.

Registered 10 years agoi dont know what to think i am playing it atm. First of all it has awesome ideas with the streetpass features. Battling really not easy at all! trying to do the side quest where you get sent to the dungeon to the west and its just not happening i am getting abused
haha im not canceling my pre order i think being dropped into any rpg in a demo is never going to have a big impact, when your put in a huge world and dont know any thing on whats going on in terms of mechanics and story -

Registered 14 years ago@Raiko101 Glad to see I'm not the only one finding it hard to see how this combat mechanic is truly meant to work; it sounds like one of these concepts that sounded good on paper, it would probably be entertaining if only the player characters could use it as a special skill only they have, but as soon as it can be used against you the flow of combat just doesn't make sense any more.
Whilst I'm surviving the overworld battles relatively easily, compared to you, I tried to take the mission on in the mine to the west; the boss has more HP than your party put together, they use default so your blows become ineffective and then hit you with two spells in a row which can take out a character in one hit. At this point you can do what, exactly? Run away, oh, no, it looks like you probably can't when fighting bosses but it doesn't actually tell you that...
Defending/blocking is usually bad enough, in an RPG, for blunting your blows, but it then allowing them to build up extra attacks on top of that is breaking things too much. It's especially noticeable when you use Brave, because that lets you use up the attacks in advance but then leaves you completely vulnerable afterwards. For minor enemies it makes you overpowered, for bosses it's broken.
Now realising why they have that paid for mechanic, that's been talked about, where you effectively put bosses on pause with either built up "sleep mode" time or eshop bought coins. They either deliberately made it an unbalanced system or realised it was broken then twigged that they could exploit it financially. -

Registered 20 years agoLooks great; wandered out, killed by an owl thing. I'm intrigued, I don't understand what I'm doing and I feel like there is more to it than I can see.
I do get a feeling this one is going to disappear quite quickly from retail. I'll give it another go tomorrow. -

Registered 20 years agoI haven't had any trouble with the battles at all :S Fought a few battles, used the money to buy the best equipment, and pretty much did things the old fashioned way. Been using a basic Warrior/Warrior/Black Mage/White Mage set-up. Mages 'default' until needed. Just think of it as stockpiling turns. -

Thinking to myself... is this square enix? I hope so otherwise they need to sue for big bucks.
Its very final fantasy, you can see elements from 7 and 9 in there.
Which is not a bad thing at all.
