There are a couple of remote play threads in the Vita section, but this is specifically for PS4 remote play. So ner. Post experiences of specific games and how well they work via remote play here.

Do we know if any of the launch games allow two-screen local multiplayer? (One player on TV, one on Vita.)

I think FIFA might offer two screen multiplayer, although I don't really see why you'd need it as it's perfectly fine for both to share the big screen.

Yeah, not too much point with FIFA. But good to have it I guess. A shooter would be great, say Killzone or BF4.

    Or NFS!

Wouldn't that give a clear advantage to whoever was using the main screen? I see it more as a way to use the PS4 without turning on the TV/while the TV is being used by someone else for some emergency gaming.

Edit: Actually, that's somewhat what I miss in the PS3. I'd like to just be able to turn it on for a quick look on the store (which no longer works in remote play, btw)/copying of saves without having to turn the projector on for 3 minutes. I know I can make it wakeable remotely, but it uses a lot more power in standby then, and I'm rather conscious about stuff like that.

I posted this somewhere else, so let's have it in here.

I'm intrigued how seamless this is going to be, in other words can I put the Vita into standby and just pick the DS4 and continue instantly?

They don't show this aspect on the vid.

Yeah that's its main use for sure. But I have a mate who's only an occasional gamer. Giving him the big screen and proper pad would even things out a bit ;)

Lego Marvel has two screen multiplayer.

I think Lego Marvel has two-screen co-op. Should be great to play along with the kids.

    [Edit] What Ham said!

@monkman76 Hah, fair enough. I have a mate like that as well.

I'm looking forward to using it on NBA 2K14.

How does Vita's sleep mode work? I'm guessing you can't just "pause" the game by putting the vita to sleep. IIRC, if you do that with PS3 remote play you lose the connection.

Again Lego works reasonably well with both players on one screen, though not quite as well as FIFA.

I'm hoping for stuff that would replace split-screen multiplayer, like a shooter or a driving game.

This Vid shows a half decent look at the process. Looks to have a decent range as well, judging by this:

Remote play was really clunky on the PS3, though and it seems much more seamless on the PS4. We'll see how it works soon enough. :-)

The problem is that because the Vita is quite an expensive optional extra, games developers are really unlikely to really use the full potential of the Vita as a second screen. It might have some clever incidental use for some games, but it's never going to be massively fundamental.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that I'm extremely excite about how well the Remote play seems to work (even that guy that paired it to a mobile wifi hotspot in Manhattan!) after getting burned by the PS3 remote play feature. I find it astonishing, frankly.

The wifi is fairly strong in our house so playing Killzone and AC4 on the John or in bed is a fantastic prospect.

So does this work on actual wi-fi that depends on your internet connection or an Ad-Hoc connection like the PS3 remote play? (when playing in the same room obviously)

    @kalel

I suppose my hope is that where a game already has a split-screen mode (admittedly this has gone well out of fashion, though CoD usually has it), it won't be a huge amount of extra effort for devs to move one half of that display onto the Vita. We'll see I guess.

It can connect via wi-fi or direct to the PS4, but neither depends on internet connection - the wi-fi connection is across your home network (LAN).

Phew, cheers. Definitely going direct to the PS4. My internet connection wouldn't be up to scratch.

Good idea will follow this thread :)
Remote play is one of the big deals of the ps4 for me.
I might have even cancelled my preorder recently but the thought of remote play swayed me.

You realise he just said "no it doesn't depend on your internet connection", right?

Well, I just treated myself to the Vita for remote play. That Shopto deal was too good to ignore. I've found off screen play one of the best features on the Wii U, particularly when the wife wants the TV. If I can do that on the PS4 as well then that's going to be great.

I've also a load of software I've downloaded through PS+ so it's not like I'll need to buy many games for the thing.

So how is this working for everyone?

Looking forward to giving Resogun and NBA2K14 a bash later!

    Works really well.

A little stutter on Resogun, but I was downloading 4 games in the background. The Vita is really quick to connect to the PS4.

Can see me using this a lot.

This seems pretty good. One thing I hadn't considered is you can effectively use the Vita as a portable screen without losing DS4 functionality, being signed into one account on the Vita and another account via the DS4. You can switch between the accounts at will by pressing the PS button on either the Vita or the controller, and thus navigate on the Vita via the DS4. In fact I hadn't considered in general the utility of having accounts assigned to controllers in this fashion.

I tried the Remote Play with Resogun last night and was amazed at how seamless and quick the whole process was. It seems to be one of those rare things that works exactly as promised.
