Cheers guys. I will read through this all again after work and make a plan using your advice. |

Registered 14 years agoA bit annoyed to discover you can't use the PS Vita as a battlemap for MP Battlefield4 on the PS4. You can use a tablet with battlelog to do it but I'd prefer the former method. The tab method hardly ever works as it is anyway ! -

Registered 15 years agoRemote play really is excellent. Lego Marvel feels like it was designed for RP and even Warframe seems half decent via the Vita. -
Remote play seems quite a bit more stable with a WEP key instead of WPA.
Also, tethered the Vita to my S4's 3G and played Tomb Raider in the car whilst the Mrs was shopping. It absolutely blew my mind how well it ran. -
Hopefully going forwards more games will take a leaf out of AC4's book and adapt the controls for when you're using a Vita.
Tried playing FIFA the other day which I'd have thought would have been perfect, but it was basically unplayable as change player is mapped to the rear touch pad. Annoying. -
I still have no idea why remote play stopped working for me
Was working perfectly fine over the internet at work but now the PS4 is no longer found when searching outside of my home network.
Anyone else having any difficulties? -

I'll have to try changing to that one day. Ours uses WPA and it definitely did not like it much when I forced it to use the internet connection only to test that in our house.

I still need to try it over at my folks, which should hopefully be do-able now they have picked up fibre too.
Although they'll no doubt think I'm an immature, unsociable git for trying it out. -

I've had this issue. Sometimes when I use it on another network it stops working on my home one. I fix it by going into the wireless settings, forcing it to try and connect to another network (even if I can't actually connect to it), and then going back onto my home network. Usually works.

I'd previously had visions of remote playing through my phone's 4G connection, but assumed it wouldn't work or be too laggy - This means I could play Resogun, whilst on the 'throne' at work
-
Indeed. It took a couple of times to try and find it initially, but after 3-4 tries, it worked perfectly.
@Vortex808 It's worth a try. It still becomes a little unstable if the Mrs is on her Ipad / phone though. -

Registered 9 years agoIt worked really well for me around christmas but now I'm lucky to get it running at all, very choppy and usually I lose the connection after a few minutes. -
Do you have any more devices running on the wifi? Maybe worth changing channels on your router? -

It's all down to how the devs implement the transistion, Fifa as you say is basically unplayable because of how EA have mapped the controls whereas other games like Assassins Creed Ubi have done a good job of mapping the controls to make it playable

Registered 13 years agoStruggling to get the pause menu up in MGS Ground Zeroes. You have to touch the bottom left of the front screen, but it's very hit and miss. In fact in my experience it's about 10% hit, 90% miss. Any different experiences? -
There was something similar in AC4. Same thing to get the heat tracking thing up, and was equally hit and miss. I think the spot is just very very small. Once you've practised it you tend to have a better hit rate. -

Registered 13 years agoI know what you mean but I never had a problem with that, got it every time once I learnt the spot. This one, it's literally 1 in 10 stabs and seems to be a different spot every time. -

Right, finally managed to sort my Remote Play from work issues. I did a hard reset of my router, DHCPed my PS4 IP address, stuck it in the DMZ and also removed the firewall.
Works perfectly now although, without a router firewall, it might leave me a bit open... -

Registered 12 years agoI've spent a few hours remote playing FFXIV this weekend, having got my PS4 on Friday (just in time for early access!), and it's generally been pretty good. I've been using it in the living room (which is directly below my bedroom, where the PS4 sits) and while it's not as stable as my Wii U in the same circumstances, it's generally pretty good.
I get the odd spike of lag and a bit of occasional artifacting, and while I certainly won't be using it to run a dungeon, it's absolutely fine for doing low level quests, fetch quests, inventory management, etc. I've got the PS4 using a wired connection and the Vita connected directly to it, - I've not tried it over the network yet.
Control is obviously a bit of an issue; on PS3, the select button is used to cycle through UI elements, and obviously select is now share on PS4. The touchpad button replaces it on the DS4, which is fine, but the Vita has no equivalent. This means dragging a cursor across the touchscreen and then tapping on it to access stuff, which is a faff but works. But it does mean there's seemingly no way to, for instance, remove the UI (L1+Select on PS3, L1+touchpad click on PS4). Also, typing in chat is an absolute nightmare - you have to drag the cursor over to the chat box, tap the screen to enable it, press triangle to bring up the on-screen keyboard, and then type using that. You may as well not bother.
Again though, I'm only using it for certain, more relaxed parts of the game, and maybe as I get used to and explore the Vita UI/HUD I'll find ways around some of these issues. So far, it's pretty good. Not as good as off-screen play on the Wii U, but then, control-wise at least, it was never going to be. -

Registered 8 years agoHow does it not work?? Yeah some games the controls don't suit but the most are totally fine, I actually platinumed Resogun on my Vita in bed. Other examples are Assassins creed worked fine, Infamous fine, Marvel Lego fine. Only two games I found a bit usless was Warframe and BF4 and I think that's because the sticks don't lend themselves to shooters imo. -

Registered 13 years agoMGS Ground Zeroes is also good on remote play, apart from the near impossibility of pausing the game. Outlast also good. NFS pretty good. Yeah, can't understand that view personally. -

Registered 12 years agoUgh. Just tried to remote into FFXIV in the same environment as the other night and it was completely unusable. It kicked me out of remote play a couple of times and was very unresponsive while it did work. Something must be interfering with it tonight. -

Registered 13 years agoWhat are the following like on remote play? Could be a deciding factor in which to buy.
Infamous SS
Wolfenstein
Watch Dogs -
Infamous works brilliantly, but Wolfenstein is undermined a little by the halved framerate and awkward as fuck weapon select. Can't speak for Watch Dogs yet.
