No need. I just checked and she does indeed become available again in January in Royal.

Great, thanks. Only things is her skill at Max sounds great, seems a shame not to get it till so late in game.

@Armoured_Bear Yeah, her max skill is insanely good and is better the earlier you get it because it gives you more evening slots.

That said, there's actually less pressure on evening slots than on afternoon ones, so she's not necessarily essential. In my first playthrough of the launch version, I had all of the evening confidants maxed by around 10 December. In Royal, when I knew how to game the system, I had them maxed from around 2 December. All of my evening slots from that point went on other stuff, like the pool hall/jazz club stuff.

Turns out I have just enough time to max her, I have one save romancing her, one friendzoning her, I'll play both for a bit and go one way or the other.
Kasumi just had a chat with me at lunch about having fun in the future, is that the sign that I have unlocked the extra semester?

@Armoured_Bear Yes, I think so. The requirements are pretty simple and going from what you've already said, you've met them. Counsellor at 9 and Justice at 8 by 17 November, then Faith to 5 by mid-December. Having done all that, just make the dialogue choices needed for the base game's true ending during certain upcoming events (don't accept any deals you're offered).

    Cheers.
Counsellor is now at 10 so seems all good, just need to go do the Shadow Sae boss next.

So I finished Palace 6, Akechi you little shit! I always hated him.
I have 2 saves now, both with Kawakami maxed as Lover, one as buddies, I'll decide which one to stick with.
I did like the appearance of Kasumi at the end of the palace, she may have a chance :)

@Armoured_Bear Kasumi is a lot of fun but be warned... what you have seen so far is NOT what you get. Probably the darkest of the confidant stories..

And yes, you've just done some of the game's most iconic scenes. Royal gives you some more context of Akechi still to come. Whether that makes him more sympathetic or not is up for debate.

I hated him before he betrayed us so I don't give a shit about his tough upbringing :)

@Armoured_Bear Not sure if you've played Persona 4, but Akechi is a very deliberate subversion of expectations based on Shirogane Naoto, a playable character in P4. In P4, Naoto is the detective character, who for part of the plot is set up as an antagonist. Now in P4, Naoto eventually becomes an ally and party member and is one of the most fan-popular members of P4's cast. P5's very deliberate setup of Akechi in the same role and the twist that he is actually an out and out villain is part of the thematic subversion P5 does, compared to P4.

P4 was a really popular game and is, by any measure, a classic. But its party dynamic is very much a "Scooby Gang" one. The player character is a transfer student who quickly becomes the most popular kid in class. The party members have their issues, but once they're in the party, all friction falls away. The police, and broader civic authorities, are a bit bumbling and inept, but basically well-meaning. P4 is ultimately a comfortable game (while P3's main story was Lovecraftian horror).

P5 very deliberately sets up expectations that it's going the same route as P4, with Akechi as a very obvious Naoto counterpart, then it subverts them hard. The detective is a villain, the police are corrupt and society is out to get you. There's a rawness to it that you very rarely get from Japanese games (or indeed, any games).

It's pretty interesting to me that the villain in P4 was also a detective. These games really don't like the police.

@Mola_Ram Yes, but P4 balanced that with both Dojima and Naoto. Adachi is shown as a lone "bad actor". In P5, the whole structure is corrupt.

Just finished the vanilla version of the game. 110 hours. Loved it. What a great series this is. Will get the Royal version when it comes to the Switch (fingers crossed!) or when I fancy coming back to it.

Since purchasing this game I just cannot stop humming this song.

Itís a complete departure to what I usually play, but I absolutely love it.

A few pages back, I posted on the real-life inspirations behind P5's villains. The background to its first arc is in the news again today.

I seem to be flying though Royal. I've only played 40 hours so far and I'm already at the Casino palace. Got all social stats maxed and well on the way maxing all confidants. On P5, I didn't get everything maxed until literally the last day before the point of no return.

Hoping to have Royal platinumed in around 60 hours on the clock in total. P5 took over 130 hours. I've been skipping most of the cutscenes in Royal except for the added content. Did anyone else do the same?

@Bombonera No, I still watched stuff. It had been three years since I played the original and there are lots of little changes dotted around, particularly in some of the Confidant scenes.

Think Iím going to have to drop the difficultly level on the final persona 5 Royal boss, does it matter if I drop it to safe as Iím at the end of the game ( I think, itís 3rd February)??

Nah I think you're fine, difficulty has no impact on the story etc so if it is frustrating you then I say go ahead!

Cheers, after 180 hours I cannot be arsed with hours and hours of a tough boss battle so safe mode when I get back on it at the weekend!

Hah, yeah, no impact at all from dropping to safe. You can't raise it again on that playthrough, but if it's the last boss, that doesn't matter.

Doesn't stop you from going into NG+ on a higher difficulty, but after 180 hours you might not feel like that.

Thanks, not a chance of NG+!
I have Yakuza 3,4,5 and 6, Judgement, Dragon Quest 11, Sekiro and Nintendo stuff waiting !

That is a superb list of games you have lined up! I finished Yakuza 2 and 3 earlier this year and am on the brink of starting 4 potentially. Also have 5 and 6 and Judgement to do.

DQXI is my second favourite JRPG this generation after Persona 5, absolutely magnificent.

I bought Persona 5 for £9.99 the other day, not played it yet but that must be one of the biggest bargains of all time if Persona 4 is a reliable guideline

@retro74 Yep, £9.99, even for the regular, non-Royal version, is an absolute steal. Hell, in simple arithmetic terms, it's around 10p per hour of gameplay. And that's not factoring in the sheer bloody quality of it.
