    Hi,
My PS4 keeps dropping Wifi connection, is this happening to anyone else?

Every couple of minutes it comes up saying it has 'lost connection to the wifi network' . Worked fine up until a day or two ago.

Do I have a faulty unit or is this happening to anyone else?

    Cheers

It's a widely reported system error that the ghosts in the machine are getting far too jiggy with it thus resulting in BAD STUFF.

I'd suggest euthanasia as a first resort, but failing that, maybe turning it off and on again?

Ha yes I did try that. It is only happening with the PS4 and no other devices connected to the same wifi network so is isolated to the device.

It has full signal as well when it is connected, really weird..

Well I'm at a loss with my technical mumbo-jumbo.

Other than wrapping it in a wet towel I'm flummoxed.

Put it in a bowl of rice

Shame the PS4 doesn't have an ethernet port otherwise you could at least get it online.

It might be a new neighbour getting wifi or a neighbour changing wifi settings in your area on their router or bluetooth or wifi interference from another device/mobile phone. Equally it could be electro-magnetic interference from another device in your house such as a heater, PC or CRT tv. But before trying anything else, try turning the system fully off and unplug the ps4 from the wall (for 60secs). Some network stack bugs don't clear themselves fully without a proper power-cycle. And do the same for your router. Switch it off for 60secs.

How is this still a thing? It wasn't funny first time round, never mind the 1,001st.

I know, it's disgusting. For the sake of saving a few pence, they have emasculated their proud next-gen warrior. What were they thinking?

Try changing the wifi channel on your router. I had dropouts on my android tab and changing the channel to 11 fixed it. Not saying necessarily change it to 11 but try out the different channels and see if it helps. You can always change it back again so it wont cause any harm.

How do you change channells on your router?

The exact menu is going to differ between routers but it should be in the general wireless settings section.

I've tried changing channels and checked with inssider to find the clearest channels.

Every other device I have is Ok except the ps4 and every 2 mins or so it comes up saying it has lost connection. I wouldn't mind but Battlefield actually pauses the game when that happens.

Reckon I must have a faulty device, back to Sony it goes :/

@silus Have you tried moving the PS4 closer to your router, like in the same room? Just to see if is broken or not. You've got the PS4, might as well explore all options.
  • Deleted user 5 December 2013 11:40:58
Yeah, at the very least a hard stare and shake a fist at it. Assert your dominance.

I've had two instances of my PS4 saying that it couldn't connect to the internet when I turned it on. It signed into my profile but not PSN. When I checked the Network Settings it showed the signal strength as a dash whereas normally it is at 100% as the router is only on the other side of the same small room. Turning the PS4 off then on fixed it. I've never been disconnected while actually using the machine though so I'm putting this down as a Standby hiccup for now.

Is it possible that you live near vizzini? The electromagnetic fields that he generates once put a branch of Dixons out of business for a month.

And he really does mean Vizzini, not his equipment.

    ;)

It still sounds highly unlikely given that it works for a brief period. Most likely cause is just the BF4 game or that your security method on your wifi is WPA Auto and instead should be set to WPA2 AES.

    Looks like i've fixed it.

It got to the point it would not actually connect to wifi at all. It would scan for networks but that is it, would not connect to one at all. Key is WPA2 and tried static IP.

In the end I just whacked it. Gave it a solid thump right on the top.

Must have knocked something back in place because it is now working properly....

Yeah I think it was coincidence as it has started happening again.

It doesn't spam me every few seconds like it was before but I do get a disconnection notification a couple times per evening. I know for sure it is not my wifi network so either psn issue or faulty wifi/console.

Ahh nice to see the gold ole Glaswegian Hammer still being used to solve technical hiccups and mysteries!
