Is this way better with motion controllers on PSVR, or is it ok with a standard pad?

The move implementation is brilliantly done imo, but it's fine with the pad.

Should I get this or Elite for my hot new VR kit? My PC is not great, just a 980ti.

Iíd get Elite for now. You could get NMS to run adequately if you turn everything down, and run your index at 90 or even 80 hz with motion smoothing turned on. They are updating NMS every day so I hope they get it running better.

The concept of both games is similar, but elite is more of a sim/joystick game whereas nms is made for the controllers.

I was just now giving NMS another go on the index, but itís just too hot right now!

This has a lot more game to it than the last time I played. What's the best way of getting a lot more inventory space, really fast?

You can buy new inventory slots at each space station you visit, or spend credits on drop pod coordinates from shops when they appear and use them with a signal booster on a planet.

Just keep flying around a fair way from the last drop pod you found and search for another, but only when youíve used the materials needed to open the pod.

From memory you need condensed carbon, sodium nitrate, ionised cobalt and some antimatter. Theyíre all pretty easy to make in a refiner.

@Psiloc every space station has a pod you can upgrade inventory space which is by far the quickest way. Drop pods can be a pain in the arse

How do you get back to a drop pod once you you've left the site? I've got the marker listed in the discovery bit but no way to set a waypoint to it?

Iím not sure there is a way. At least not that Iím aware of.

Iíd say that if youíre going drop pod hunting, try and make sure you already have the materials above, or at least the materials to refine into them. Itís always the same materials for every drop pod, so you always make a point of collecting any cobalt, sodium etc when I see it so Iíve got plenty in stock.

I reckon you could drop a custom marker (if you think of that before you leave) but once discovered the waypoint is gone alright; I had the exact same problem.

It's even worse: I had left mine because I was a number of materials short and when I tried gathering them nearby I was swarmed by sentinels so I fled. When I got back with sufficient materials and found it again (purely by scouting the area) it turned out all the materials I had already invested were lost, it had reset entirely :(
Which, come to think of it, makes the fact that the waypoint disappears even stranger.

Yeah someone mentioned putting a beacon down but I couldn't find how to do it. The menus are a fucking nightmare at times but it kind of adds to the charm a bit.

Beacons are something else still, I haven't unlocked those myself, they're part of the base building quest line apparently. Basically they're portable waypoints that you can place at your leisure.
I really need to get back to that because the quest line apparently unlocks a lot of goodies but I don't enjoy first/third person base building :(

Anyway, the custom marker is a temporary version of a beacon; it sticks around unless you focus on another point of interest and probably other conditions like leaving the planet. On KB+M it's E to place one, which is also the primary action button.
No idea what it is on a pad but I assume it could also be the same button as the primary action one (i.e. the "interact with" button)

Base building is certainly recommended. You don't have to build anything too big to start with and it unlocks a lot of stuff.

@dominalien You should get both honestly, but right now, in VR, Elite just runs better. NMS is in constant flux, they've released a patch that increases VR performance just today, have not checked it out yet though.

This is basically space ship porn. I've got 2 million in the bank and I've just been spaceship shopping for the last hour. Some of them look immense in VR.

Yup, I have a sexy S Class special in yellow. I have another in blue but with less wingspan.

Hehehe yeah I spent an hour or two flying between trading posts doing the same thing last night. Almost bought a badass little fighter ship that looked like an american muscle car with big steel exhaust pipes down the side, but decided it didn't have enough storage. Then found a weird but cool looking one with lots of storage and an improved jump range but it was about a million units over my budget. Gonna have to dig up some more salvage.

    Aye, always found that relaxing.

I always loved zooming out of a planet: just something about the scale and the sound had me want to keep flying. Until I ran out of rocket fuel :(

The soundscapes in this game are fantastic. Last night in a heavy snow storm, wind swirling around, visibility down to a few meters then the storm breaks and it's nice and tranquil, sleet slowly falling and a stunning few of some mountain ranges. :)

Landscapes can be a bit dull at times but it makes the good ones even more enjoyable.

Yeah I love it :D, I went down to a planet that seemed to be mainly small islands in an unending sea. Felt pretty magical zooming close to the water as the dawn came up.

Have they patched the drop pod unlocking bug yet? You used to be able to unlock them for free by removing the crap from a green crate and then cancelling out without opening it. That would save the 'unlock' which you could then use on a drop pod without needing all the mats. I had a video somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

@Decks You can leave a marker at any destination you want to return to. But easiest way to get more slots for your suit is space stations goto the suit and not the alien that sells . If your planet hunting for drop pods then any small building that has a seller where you can buy blue prints usually sell drop pod locations ( so do space stations although ive noticed that a lot dont ) use a signal booster with the drop pod location item..

@magicpanda The s class specials are nice n all but lack inventory space, you`ll end up giving them up at some point beacuse of lack of space. i had six different ones ( you can only have six ships max ) and traded them all for s class 48 + 8 and + 12 slots. Trading posts on planets are a great place to find them they usually fly in and out. I found some of mine this way but found 3 underwater after scanning with exocraft.

A grindy game very rarely gets its claws into me but my achilles heel is sexy spaceships. MOAR MONEY.

I unlocked the freighter stuff last night, is that worth pushing on with?

@Decks Search on planets for technology modules ( need to dig them up )
in space you can call on the space anomoly at any time enter it and use the techonolgy modules to unlock just about everything ( you will need lots of them )
The frieghter side of things is essential sort of, it can be used to jump to other galaxies saving you doing it on your ship as you can jump further.
You can do allsorts onboard refining growing stuff etc etc. send your other frieghters out on missions whom in turn collect lots of credits ( i useually get around 3/4 million in credits ) and items for you.
You can recruit other smaller ships to add to your fleet i have around 12 that do various things mining, exploring and combat be aware that they can get damaged while out doing these things and you need to repair them by boarding them. you will need various items to repair them gold silver platinum so forth. good thing is in this update you can store/stack upto 9999 of each item ( not all items you`ll figure out which you can ) it used to be 1000. some are still only stackable in 5 or 10.
You can have storage on board freighter if you dont have an home based planet, you can send stuff to that storage usually where ever you are as long as you have teleport installed.

as for mats on space ship and suit put them in groups of 4 in a square not like in a vertical or horizontal line, i find that they connect better this way and give better stats.
