Having recently aquired my Medusa 5.1 headphones, I'm wondering if there are any surround sound music tracks out there.

I'm a fan of the Prodigy and virtually everything they've ever done would sound amazing in surround sound.

So does anyone know of any?

I'm not so sure. I've downloaded a few surround sound MP3s you see.

Check out the songs at this link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/domorewith/sursoshowcase.aspx

Whilst the music isn't the best it really shows what an amazing difference surround sound can make to music.

So are all SVCDs surround sound? Because if that's true then I'm sure there are some SVCD rips out there that I could try...

You can get 2 channel and surround SACD and Music DVDs. Most SACD are 2 channel and most music DVDs are 5.1

Play have a good range but don't say for all titles whether they are 2 channel or 5.1

I'd strongly recommend the DVD version of Bjork's Vespertine. It is superb!

A lot of the 5.1 DVD ones are Live sets - the portishead one is quite good.

The new Lemon Jelly DVD has 5.1 DTS and Dolby surround tracks. Simply play it through your dvd player.

Not sure about that. A lot of the ones I've seen are the stereo type with enhanced frequency range - for the audiophiles.

i guess decent surround would be amazing for orchestral music, if it had been miked up right in the recording of course.

My Sony DVD player/surround system is SACD capable. I don't have any SACD disks to try it though.

A lot of the new ones are not as much as a rip off as they used to be. 101 by Depeche Mode is £10.99 on Play IIRC - for a double album. Its SACD 5.1, I thought it was stereo until it turned up. I really cannot be bothered to buy and to patch the 3 pairs of phono leads to my AV amp.

Stereo SACD ones are worth a try - especially the dual layer ones with the normal CD compatable layer. Sound wise there is a difference - not decided if the SACD playback from my DVD player is as good as normal CD playback from my dedicated CD player.

DVD Audio is a competitor to SACD - it requires a fairly high spec'd dvd player but:

    1) often the disks have a DVD Video 5.1 version on them, so you can play it on a normal DVD player

    2) Soundblaster Audigy 2 supports DVD Audio, so you can play them on your PC as long as you have a DVD drive

REM's Automatic for the People is on it (remastered from the originals) and the improvement in audio quallity is fantastic.

I've found the CD playback on my DVD-surround system is better than my dedicated system already.

    Thats good.

I found my AV amp and DVD player were not as good at music. I ended up getting a CD player and stereo amp. The stereo amp is also used for the front left and right for surround sound as well.

    Jusss for u
Experience track 4: Your Love. Has to be THE best track by the Prodigy ever IMO. I still get that 'feeling' (admittedly a lil' faded over the years) when playing that track.

Couple that with the fact that it's nigh on impossible to objectively compare a stereo mix with a 5.1 one and you've got a pointless situation.

    ??

The audiophile SACD standard bit is stereo only - its not surround sound.

Be careful not to have the bass level too high on your headset, Mike. I knackered the right-hand bass speaker on my set, which caused it to make a horrible rattle whenever there is a bass output. I reckon it was playing Red Orchestra for UT2004 that gave me my problems. Anyone who has played that will tell you that the artillery makes a *lot* of noise.

the labs that created mp3's have (as stated before ?) just managed it, i dont think many bands will be doing it in the near future tho, i'd say 2-3 years because its such a faff.

but lol i just bought those medusa headphones too, i bought the twin set, my brother needs a pair too and for £5.49 for a 5.1 sound card off ebay you cant go wrong for gaming :D

Do you have a link where they explain such info. All I have to go on is classical music, often aimed at teh audiophile, but all sacd's (hybrid, don't have a sacd player) I have say 5.1 on the disc. surround in the normal sacd 24 bit 96khz thingy which they also use in stereo.

Too late - it's rattling already and I've only used it for 10 minutes. Time for a refund methinks.
