Any chance you can answer the questions regards backwards compatibility on the previous page please vizzini? Or do i have to turn my underwear inside out and place it over my head to get 'in' to this conversation?
You owe the forum one picture of inside out pants on your head.

So this Cell Simulator product that has been in one version or another since before the PS3 launched, won't or can't be used to run Cell Be code at playable frame-rates (on current Pc hardware or the PS4)?

    http://www.bsc.es/computer-sciences/programming-models/linux-cell/cell-be-sdks/sdk-31

    IBM Full System Simulator

The IBM Full System Simulator is a software application that emulates the behavior of a full system that contains a Cell/B.E.™ Processor. Users are able to boot a Linux operating system on the simulator and run applications on the simulated operating system. In addition, the simulator also supports the loading and running of statically-linked executables and stand-alone tests without an underlying operating system. This version adds support for an enhanced CBEA compliant processor with a fully pipelined, double precision SPE.
The simulator is not provided with the SDK and is available from alphaWorks.

So are you saying with that simulator (or SDK) you could set up a full PS3 simulated environment to emulate the games completely?

So, what we are really saying, is that vizzini is a klingon with a duff universal translator?

The simulator pre-dates them having working Cell BE sample processors, as they needed to get to work building software for the hardware while they were still working on the Ps3 hardware.

The simulator is the reason that Sony are able to use their acquired Gaikai to cloud emulate PS3 games in the coming year. The hUMA design of the PS4 CPU/GPU can also run the full emulator of the Cell BE and (redirect the RSX GPU calls to the PS4 GPU) and eliminate all the XDR to DDR3 transfers by just doing internal data copies within the GDDR5. Somewhere in a Sony R&D lab they will have a fully working software emulator of the PS3 running on a PS4.

Can someone dumb the tech speak down? I thought Gaikai was a PS3 running in the cloud? Why would the PS4 have to do lots of complicated stuff to translate it surely all the emulation stuff is done on the server side?

All of the PS3 games on Gaikai are in fact being emulated on vizzini.

Doubt so, Klingons usually go on about spilling blood, cutting off heads and pride and honour and shit. Also, for some reason, they can all speak English anyway.

Remember Folding at Home on PS3? I think vizzini is a rogue AI generated in a similar way by a Cell network.

By PS3s running in the cloud, do you mean some specialist custom servers with lots of CELL chips in? Having lots of PS3s in a rack wouldn't be the way I'd build it.

Actually, can you get CELL based servers? I might have a look.

And I've had a look, and a company acutally made CELL based servers...

Mercury Computer Systems has a dual Cell server, a dual Cell blade configuration, a rugged computer, and a PCI Express accelerator board available in different stages of production.

Remember all the bullshit about PS3 shipments being stopped as they were being classified as military?

Well this outfit makes "aerospace and defense platforms such as ships, land-mobile vehicles and airborne platforms". Makes you wonder doesn't it.

    WHEELS IN WHEELS MOTHERFUCKERS!
