Is anyone else having problems with the rubber stuff on the left stick of the PS4 Dualshock wearing away? Mine seems to have perished after just over two weeks and is flapping in the wind now. There seem to be a few people online reporting the same issue but it's hard to get a sense of scale.

Both these consoles seem pretty terrible at the moment. See know reason why you couldn't return it to the shop/Sony and get another pad.

Unfortunately I ordered online from Shopto and it came with the console so not sure whether Shopto would want the whole lot back or not. Awaiting a call back from Sony as I asked to hear it confirmed by the manager.

You should see the wear that user Pinky_Floyd has got on his Xbox controller.

Maybe a layer of cling film over the thumb sticks to resist wear but still allow you to feel the finish underneath?

Nah, just sand your finger ends down to a smooth finish.

Mines had it too, the whole ring around the top has gone leaving a bit of rubber in the very centre, its actually even more comfortable now as the centre of my thumb sits on the rubber in the centre of the cup, felt weird until the whole ring had gone as it started on the right hand side and progressed all the way around.

Just been reading through this long thread on the US playstation forum. As it's been out there longer a lot more people have come to discover the issue it looks like. Sony apparently still insisiting in the land of class action cases that people have to pay to send them back for replacement.

I got some of those yesterday, not because of worn sticks but to make them more concave. After a night of gaming I'm much happier with the grip I'm getting, much more like how the 360 pad feels on the sticks, which is my only quibble about the DS4.

There's two concave (yay!) two convex (boo!) in the packet.

Ordered those ORB covers from amazon. Not had any noticeable wear on the sticks yet luckily.

Yes I've ordered some ORB Controller Thumb Grips 4-Pack (PS4), but it's kind of not the point imo. I know it's not as serious as a console itself not working or breaking so soon, but it's still annoying that Sony expect me to pay to send it to them to replace. I expect I will buy a 2nd controller so that I can continue to use the PS4 whilst the original is away. I guess it's a good thing they didn't print something like 'Day One Edition' on them like Microsoft!

In the EU/UK you wouldn't have to pay, someone was quoting the US PS forums saying they had to pay postage.

@wayneh I missed a call from a manager from the UK Support team this morning.

Just called them back, but just got through to someone on the service desk not the manager who left the vm. The guy I was speaking to said that the manager was just calling back to reiterate Sony's position that it was a peripheral and so it was down to me to post it back to them under the standard warranty at my expense. So it isn't just in the US that you're expected to pay.

I asked if Sony were denying that there was a manufacturing flaw with some of the controllers, and he said that he didn't think Sony had made any formal statement or accepted any responsibility at this point, and it was not something that he could comment on.

Apparently the manager is still going to call me back later.

@Quige Sony may class it as a peripheral but you cannot use the console without it! Also in the first year you should deal with the company you purchased it from rather than Sony direct

Yeah, it's a poor stance that and both Microsoft and Sony are doing it.
It's a peripheral in the same way that a steering wheel is for a car.
