    I'm 90% sure it was a spectrum game. It was text-input adventure but with graphics on the screen. It's theme was pirates and the dialogue was funny but it wasn't called Pirate Adventure. I think the title of the game was the pirate's name and strangely enough his name was quite quirky like Guybrush Threepwood but it obviously wasn't this either!

    It definitely pre-dated monkey island and monkey island it probably the closest game to it.

    Zenobi Software published a hell of a lot of text adventures on the Speccy. Hopefully this link will work, but if not, run a search for their name on World of Spectrum and see if any of the results ring a bell.

    Not a text adventure game, but I remember getting a game called Treasure Island free with my 128K Speccy (I say 'mine', it was really my Dad's) - horrendously difficult at the time - it still pops up in the odd nightmare.

    Loved this game although I never got very far! Solid.

    Ahh, Pirate Adventure. I spent hours on those old Scott Adams games as a kid, happy days.

    Hah, good to hear that somebody else actually played the thing. The Frogger-section was so tough because of the isometric angle (possibly my memory playing tricks on me) - and you'd be treated to an ear-splintering drilling noise if you died - which I did - over and over again.

    You mean at the start when you had to jump barrels? Then you had to dodge something (rats?) before making it to the island.

    Christ - I'd forgotten about the barrel section - that was a killer, too. I think the next section saw you having to move your character across the screen, avoiding (what I thought were) pirates walking backwards and forwards - perhaps they were rats, though? Either way, I rarely saw the section after this. ;_;

    What do you know I actually have this game, I'll have to try it. I bought an amstrad cpc 464 from ebay a while back because it was my first gaming machine, with a bunch of (mostly old crap) games.

    BUMP!

    This thread will do nicely.

    I remember playing a game on a covertape. It was a game where it was like some kind weird sport. It was presented side on, two men (white in colour) were inside a green box. Both men were attached to their side of the box by a yellow bungee cord.

    The game was to catch a little ball with a kind of glove that looked like the end of a Lacrosse paddle, then throw it into one of two holes in the ceiling of the opponents side of the box. The rope would be slowly pulling you backwards, jumping would make it go faster, crouching would stop it pulling altogether.

    Anyone know the game I'm talking about?

    1992. Explains why I have no recollection. I stopped gaming completely in 1988/89.
