Registered 18 years agoI'm enjoying this on PC having never played the original. It's not a patch on L4D, but it rekindles the spirit of those games. It's just not as satisfying moment to moment, like landing a Boomer vomit or a perfectly timed Hunter jump.
That said, the characters are all pretty to play as so far as is the monster. I absolutely suck at the latter though, so definitely need to get some more games under my belt with it. -
Addictive little game this and is really only beginning to reveal its subtleties after 10 hours play.
Matches can turn sour very quickly as a Hunter. It can feel like you have the upper hand for a bit then the monster just thwomps everyone in about 30 seconds flat.
I really recommend folk who havent tried it to give it a go. Its free after all and there is enough there to give you a real feel for if you like it or not. I have played almost every day since I got it and do intend to keep on as it is really fun and can be both frustrating and satisfying in equal measure. -

Had a match as a hunter (assault) earlier and while were were doing well and had almost won, I started getting some abuse from a couple of teammates for being 'useless'. One of them on mic said "for fuck sake assault, do something". I was trying to but the monster was jumping or charging away from me whenever I got close to it and then positioned itself behind cliffs at a distance so I didn't have a shot on it (pretty smart strategy imo). I was using all my jet pack fuel to close the distance and I soon as I did it would run away again. We were still one health bar block within winning but the dome went down, and it escaped and armoured up. When we caught up to it, it killed us and I was blamed which I said was bullshit. One thing I did agree with them on was I should have thrown more gas grenades (I was too distracted chasing it, I threw a couple but not consistently) but to blame me for the whole loss was making me a scapegoat for no valid reason.
Next game I get thrown in with the same two shit-talkers again, as medic and they start saying how we're guaranteed a loss now because of that. I just laughed and threatened not to cure them if they felt like that. During the game I did a great job healing and buffing, we won the match with only one player being downed the entirety of the game (me, in the last 10 seconds) so I said "that better?", they said "no, you're still shit" or something to that effect. I said "haha, you'll never be happy", they replied "you'll never be good".
Next lobby, again, I was put with these clowns. I was fed up of fighting for them after recieving the undeserved abuse so I felt it was time to get some revenge. I switched my #1 preference to monster and picked Meteor Goliath. The match started off well, I was very close to evolving before they domed me, I held them off while keeping my health mostly untouched. I managed to down one of the hunters, then the dome went down. I ran off, ate a couple more animals and evolved to stage 2 before they caught up to me and domed me again. Turned out to be bad for them as I started wrecking them, killing the medic first (one of the guys from earlier, huzzah!) after hounding them relentlessly then smashing anyone else that tried to revive them. They scattered and I managed to pick them off one-by-one after that, whilst stopping them reviving. And the match was won! My hands were shaking a bit with adrenaline but I managed to type "LOL", "Guess it wasn't me who sucked after all" and "gg" before they exited the lobby. A bit childish possibly, but fair I think. The way they were talking they were gods of the game and I was holding them back, felt very good to show them they were not quite as good as they thought.

Pretty addicted to this I have to say. Tried Trapper but they dont get a shield so are very squishy. Even played a round as a monster but I wasnt too hard to beat, didnt even manage to evolve to stage 2.
Enjoying both Bucket and Rogue Val the most but RV is a magnet for the monster due to her healing. -

Glad you're still enjoying it Pinky. As you say, it can be frustrating but oh so satisfying when everything clicks into place. -
@DFawkes Yeah, its actually a pretty class act. In order to be balanced you need everyone to be at an equal level of proficiency. Folk need to really play to their class as part of a team or it all falls apart, especially against a good monster.
They have definitely nailed the cat and mouse aspect and the combat is fun and frantic when everyone is locked in the dome.
Really hope this does well in F2P, it deserves to IMO.

Registered 10 years agoI thought it deserved to do well first time around tbh. Thing is people jumped on the outrage bandwagon without really giving it a chance. It needs to be played with likeminded folks or friends or it can be a lonely frustrating time. -
36 damn hours clocked now on this utterly infuriating yet tremendous online game. There are so many problems with it I dont even know where to start if I were to list them. It is something very unique however and although it can frustrate it can also dole out some incredible online cat and mouse gaming. -

Registered 6 years agoThe games not the issue, it's the idiots you get teamed up with. If you get good team mates it's sublime. I remember finding an excellent thank player and with me as Val we could really wreck, the beam team. (I believe hank is now totally different though). -

Registered 15 years agoI had a frustrating run yesterday of first choice (Assault) with the Monster player quitting, fifth choice (Monster), first choice with monster quit, fifth choice, first choice with monster quit etc etc...
Only ever played trapper once even though it's my 4th choice.
Oh and once I played the monster and it said "hunters win" when I hadn't even moved yet from where the flares drop...
It seems monster just isn't popular enough...They should give it 4 times the silver keys or something to convince people to play... -

Registered 6 years agoI need to get back to this although most of the changes I don't like the sound of. They've clearly gone for accessible over the pure experience it used to be. I hate the dumbing of each class, before each player had to work together when now the roles have been slightly blurred. The game in its original state was almost perfect when you had a group of playering playing well. -

Still playing this awesome game.
You PC guys need to check it out, it's F2P after all.
It now has tutorials you can play for each of the hunter types. Now has proper matchmaking so if a person leaves it won't stick a bot in their place but will wait for the spot to be filled. -

Registered 6 years agoI didn't see those replies earlier. Parnell is a beast in the right situation will a player with good aim. Ciara over rated , easiest medic to get the job done though/most reliable. I just love playing as sunny or Val. -

Registered 10 years agoI didn't play so much of the others so never really settled (assault I played the least), support second least. Mainly medic and trapper (think I quite liked a bit of griffin) didn't get much of a chance to play the dlc guys really. -

Just watched some PC videos. Wow I got to say this has definitely been one of the most supported games ever, it's almost like a different game. Plus all these new alt characters with totally different abilities. Love it. -
The ps4 has also received alt characters btw over the year or so it's been out.
