Soooo Black Tusk eh? I wonder if this is that "Black Tusk game" that was teased or if they have that going as a separate project. -

Registered 8 years agoSeems the GAF are saying it's probably going to be rolled into the horror game Black Tusk were working on after the Spy game. IIRC there was a trademark filed for something called "The Response" by Microsoft last year, so that's probably the stealth game they were working on. -
Woo, screw new games!
I like Gears, but I'd prefer something else. But then something else would probably be a gritty shooter in gritland... -

I'm glad the franchise is still alive and it will be interesting to see what this new studio does with it. -

Registered 13 years agoI guess my faint hopes of it going multi-platform for the new machines are over now.
Hopefully any new game will be better than GoW:Judgement. -

Registered 18 years agoAt least Epic can move onto something more interesting, as much as I loved the original game I gave up after 2. -

Registered 15 years agoSeriously looking forwards to this. Hoping it'll come to PC, as being honest the chances I'll bother with this new generation are getting smaller all the time. -

Registered 9 years agoI'm really happy with this news. Not because it stood as an Xbox exclusive, because I couldn't care less about it, but because now I am sure Gears will be back! Epic wasn't that much in the mood of bringing it to next-gen.
But either way, I hope the other Black Tusk project(s) was/were not canned. -

Registered 15 years agoI enjoyed all three Gears, in the same way I enjoy some Michael Bay movies. Big, dump, campy fun.
Still slightly disappointed there's no Crackdown 3 announcement, but looking forward to seeing how realistic the new hardware can make dismembered torsos look! -

"The thing we showed at E3 last year, it was something that was done in Unreal and more of a concept piece," Spencer said, calling it "an asset" created by the team to get their creative juices flowing, not necessarily an in-development game.
That sucks, got me really excited

The only reason they could possibly have for wanting the license is if they wanted someone other than epic to make it. They already had the sole publisher rights so wasn't to stop Sony picking it up.
Basically this means either good or bad depending on your view of Epic as a developer. -
That's assuming Epic were willing to make another Gears game. -

Registered 15 years agoI didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I'd post here.
Does anyone have any speculation around what the story will be? I have three ideas, but I'd be interested to see what everyone else thinks.
Theory 1 - The Locust aren't all dead!
Lets face it, the Locust are the Jason Voorhees of the video game world. You kill them and they just keep coming back. The light mass bomb destroyed them all, yay. They come back. You flooded Jacinto, they're all dead. They come back. That weird lantern thing that turned them all to dust. Would ir really be a surprise if they came back? I think this would be a poor way to continue the franchise.
Theory 2 - The Pendulum Wars
If you've played the games, you'll be familiar with the pendulum wars. The big war on Sera that took place before the CoG was formed. No locust, just soldiers vs soldiers. They could use this for the next game. I think this would be a poor way to continue the franchise also because the story of the Pendulum Wars has been told through the games and the books already.
Theory 3 - Sera is no longer hospitable
This is my own idea, and I think better than the previous two. After the war with the locust and that lantern device that killed all the Locust, Sera is devastated. As such, the COG are forced to build ships to take everyone off the planet and go colonise another planet. They find a place a live and start there. An alien race welcomes them in peace and allows them to start a new life there. But they get greedy, and tensions build between the CoG and the aliens, building to a full all out war. You fight that war!
Just a few ideas that were rattling round my head and I thought it'd be worth putting them out there. -

Registered 12 years ago@Wayne I've been wondering where the story can go from the end of 3, and I have no good answer to that. Your third suggestion is the most interesting - I really don't want a Pendulum Wars game, and although we still don't have all the answers, continuing to fight the Locust will just feel like a re-tread.
You've read the books, though - they don't have the resources or personnel to start building starships. Though that doesn't necessarily mean they won't contrive it.
It could be interesting if other humans, from some other world, happened upon Sera though. There's always been the possibility that Sera is a human colony - in the opening voiceover for the first game, Myrrah refers to them as "the humans of Sera". That could all be a bit far-fetched though
Perhaps the best thing they can do is have the new game as far removed from the previous ones as possible - maybe a whole new world, new characters etc... -

It's going to be announced at E3, that much is obvious. Then follows frothing at the mouth and bickering from the anti-remaster brigade.
I know remakes are unpopular at the moment but a gears hd collection would be epic. -

Registered 9 years agoThe first Gears was one of my favourite games of last gen (easily in my top 10). Some may slate it, but for me:
- the story was enjoyable nonsense and I got into it. Memorable characters IMO. IT get unfairly slated.
- it was the first time in last gen that visuals truely blew me away
- the coop play was very well implemented and spectacular fun.
- people underestimate just how solid the core mechanics were. Some massively satisfying gunplay.
- the third person cover shorter has become cliche since Gears, but it felt like something new at the time and never better implemented
- the online multiplayer again felt fresh and new. Sure, it was a shooter, but totally different to anything previous.
I don't understand the more recent backlash? It was a classic!
That said, whilst I enjoyed 2 and 3 (skipped judgement), they were too samey and it ran out of steam for me. Similar story with Uncharted where the original game was by far my favourite, but I was bored by the time I completed UC3.
Not interested in a remaster, but would love to see a proper sequel, on new hardware, and hopefully with a new visual punch. -
