Hey All, Does anyone have any thought on this error? Just wondered if anyone here has had it? I had this error twice, i know there are people on the PS4 support forum who seem to get it constantly. Just wondered as there is now a post with a response from customer services at Sony who say this is a hardware issue and it cannot be fixed by a patch. http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS4-Support/ce-34878-0-Error/td-p/20287161/page/56 Wondering whether getting the error twice is enough to warrant sending it back and getting a replacement. I think it's a generic error code for any minor crash or problem and nothing to worry about.. -
I think it's not a generic error code and is something major to worry about...

Registered 14 years agoIn the near 3 weeks I've had my Ps4 I've had this error crop up about 5-6 times alteady. It mostly occurs on Battlefield 4 campaign but I haven't lost any saves as a result of it.
I thought the solution was to back up your saves to usb and initiliase the console. I'm personally reluctant to do this unless it becomes more frequent. Its pretty poor of Sony to try and wash their hands of it though this is too common an occurence across Ps4 owners and its an FU to the early adopters -

Hardware issue? Not sure about that. Every single person I know with a PS4 has had the error at least once. I myself had over 200 errors in the first month, however this year I've only had one or two. It's dropped by over 99% for no apparent reason, except maybe game patches?

All my errors have come in games though, if it's doing it over and over at the XMB for some people that might be another issue. -

Registered 9 years ago@teamHAM I only thought hardware issues after reading the forum link in my original post, someone from Sony customer services seemed to confirm it..could be a mistake though, or an xbox fan boy -

try signing out of the PSN then start the game. once at the main menu try log back into psn.
I couldn't start cod until I did this, would freeze on the press options screen. -

Registered 17 years agoI get the CE-34878-0 error whenever I view screenshots but that is the only time I've thankfully encountered it. I have 11 disc-games and 10 downloaded ones and they've all ran fine with no crashes or corrupted save games so I've been lucky there, I guess.
The screenshot bug is weird though because I can look at five then the sixth with display a grey screen then the PS4 shows the error report submission screen and after that resets back to the Home screen. For a while I've been thinking I had a bad hard drive but that seems very unlikely when all games are installed and I've had no problems with them.
I guess the PS4's firmware is still very very buggy in some areas, more so for some than others. I always send an error report but so far Sony don't seem to be in any hurry to actually fix it. Maybe they're struggling to or can't... -

Registered 17 years agoP.S. I've had well over 100 CE-34878-0 errors in total from viewing those screenshots. Never videos or games or anything else though, only screenshots. Weird.

Also only encountered it viewing screenshots. -

Registered 14 years agoAny news on the update? Hoping it may fix this error that comes up. Only happens with fifa career. Nothing else and I have another 4 games and they all seem ok. Can't figure out if it is software error or hardware. Sony have said send ps4 back cause of the problem where some state it is the os. When the hell will we know the actual answer or some one starts telling the truth. Either way I want to play career mode on fifa. Sort it out sony. Any one got the update yet? -

Registered 9 years agoRarely seen it during gameplay but when viewing screenshots it happens every single time.
No mention of a fix in firmware 1.60 - have to wait a bit longer to get rid of it -
Is this the equivalent of the Xbox One being forced to dashboard whilst playing games?
That's pretty fucking annoying and seemingly one of the next gen special features. -

I'm very disappointed that Sony have made no mention of fixing this error in the v1.60 update but instead seemed to have focused on adding support for a peripheral that only a small number of users likely use. You'd think this issue would be a priority given the reports of corrupted save games. Having my PS4 reset to the Home screen while just viewing screenshots may not be a serious issue as far as playing games is actually concerned but it is a worrying issue all the same and one that shouldn't happen at all IMO considering how undemanding such a task is. I contacted Sony support about this issue two months ago and they still have not fixed it.
I'm also extremely pissed off at Take-Two as well for not fixing the bloody DTS via optical audio glitch in NBA 2K14 despite the game having had FOUR updates (it is currently on v1.04). The audio cuts out completely after a random amount of time playing the single player but while this kind of glitch might be acceptable on the PC it is inexcusable on fixed hardware like the PS4. I realise many of the games were rushed out for launch but that was two months ago and this issue really should have been fixed by now. The workaround is to go to the Sound settings and switch output from DTS to DD 5.1 and back but it really shouldn't be necessary to this in my view. -

Registered 9 years ago@don81 It is bloody annoying! I just want to know if its a hardware issue and should return my PS4 to game or whether it is a software issue, its worrying that Sony have known about this for so long and havent even confirmed whether it is hardware or software yet.
Hope i am right in saying I have a year to return my PS4 for hardware issues -

Registered 14 years agoNot sure if it is this error code but my PS4 has crashed and gone to dashboard quite a few times in game. Lego Marvel and NFS:Rivals being common crashers.
The Vita also does it, although much less frequently now. It is better than a console locking up entirely which the 360 did a lot in the early days. (Oblivion was terrible for locking it). -
@Ecoplex
If you bought it in the UK, you have a one-year manufacturer's warranty, but you're covered by the Sale of Goods Act: which only specifies "a reasonable period of time" if you've been sold something that isn't fit for the purpose for which it was sold (a faulty console would definitely fall into that category). By way of example, Apple does free repairs on faulty out-of-warranty Macs for six years under the SOGA. If you were to seek recourse under that Act though, it'd have to be through the retailer rather than Sony, who will probably - either through ignorance or shiftiness - deny responsibility. Perseverance will get you there in the end though.
If you got it in another EU country, you've probably got a two-year warranty, but probably no equivalent of SOGA coverage. -

Right this works for Fifa only, it used to crash when trying to continue my career mode every single time, and i have been reading about it, it is also happening on xbox, now i found a fix and just tried it, it worked!!!! Right for any one that the same happens on fifa, after you load it up as normal, go to settings and change the arena player, it was that simple, i chose an Arsenal player, come out of that screen as normal so it saves, i then played the career mode where i got the crash, played the game and then it continued, with no crash! Not saying it works for everyone, but please all give it a try and let me know if it works. -

Registered 17 years agoUnless it is placebo then the v1.60 update seems to have addressed the screenshot error somewhat but not actually fixed it. To elaborate, I viewed around 15-20 Tomb Raider images, which would have caused my PS4 to reset back to the Home screen with error CE-34878-0. Now I don't get that error but my PS4 simply shows a blank grey screen instead and I can press O to go back. Problem is that I can no longer view ANY screenshots once that happens and have to turn my PS4 off then on so the issue is still there just in a different, some might say less annoying, form.
Then again I only tried viewing screenshots once post-firmware update so it may be the CE-34878-0 will come back once I look at some more... -
Am I the only one getting annoyed by the fact that my PS4 doesn't seem to be able to a simple task like display (and sometimes upload to Facebook) a screenshot without some sort of error?
Pre-v1.60 my PS4 would reset when viewing most (but not all) screenshots after bugging out with error CE-34878-0, prompting me to submit a bug report. Post-v1.60, my PS4 now just displays a grey screen when viewing a screenshot (get this) until I then choose to upload it to Facebook then cancel it, at which point the image will display on-screen! However, I've found that I can only upload around 15 images to Facebook before I get another error, this time E-82305F13!
I've contacted Sony about it and while they've partially fixed it (since my PS4 now no longer throws up error CE-34878-0), it is still not completely fixed. Why on earth Sony cannot fix something as simple as displaying a screenshot, I do not know.
