So, Everyone knows that musical ring tones fuck everyone off. But. There are so many great MIDI game tunes out there. At present my phone rings with the Street Fighter 2 intro music. Should I be shot/hung? |

Registered 18 years agoNo that's good, its the celine dion midi ringtone you should avoid. I don't like mobiles but i've always liked the idea of a random retro game tune going off in my pocket, be it tetris or mario2.
All ringtones should be games music

Registered 17 years agoAhhh, ringtones. It depends on a few factors, how loud your phone is and how long you take to answer it. If its a known tune it should be a faithful reproduction of the original, shitty off key conversions grate most of all. But for me the biggest anoyance with mobile phones is fuckas at work who never actualy have them on them and just leave them on desks ringing away. They normall get switched straight off.
Me, ive got the Home/House theme from Zelda on mine, and the chest openeing/item discovery fanfare as my recieved message tone. Occasionaly I change it for some Mario Karts. -

I have a whole range on SNES midi files as ringtones.
When the gf rings I get the theme tune from Koopa Beach on Mario Kart.
When my annoying mate rings it's the Bowsers Castle theme from Super Mario Bros.
I have the F-zero theme tune as well as the Ghosts and Goblins theme music and loads of others.
In fact if anyone wants them, then click here. -

Well there on my phone but I dont know if I have them on the PC still, I downloaded them from somewhere and converted them with the Nokia software. Ill see what I can do though. -
The only ringtone I would be interested in would be the GTA III theme all polyphonic 'n' that. Tried downloading it from ad in PS2 mag but just got a few texts confirming order, and then a text saying message cannot be displayed AND they still charged me for it.
It all seems a bit complicated with enabling mobiles with WAP, LAP CRAP whatever...etc... so I've given up! Its just not VOIP you see..! -

Registered 20 years agoI've got a sampled MP3 of Metal Gear Solid's "codec ring" as my rinftone. It's nice in that it's not a musical piece of shite and sounds like a ringtone, but it's recognisable to those 'in the know'

Registered 20 years agoFor my opinion on MIDI ringtones I would retitle this thread to "MIDI ringtones. The horror" and have done with it.
I've configured the gf's Samsung D500 with either the opening chords of "This Is The One" by Stone Roses or "Galvanise" by Chemical Brothers both of which make pretty good ringtones.
Can't have anything quite so fancy on my Motorola V600 so I've just got the ringtone from the CTU phones in 24 - infinitely preferable to any of the crap that is otherwise on offer on it. -

Registered 19 years agoI'm the last person in Britian without a mobile phone (proven fact), to great annoyance to my friends and enemies.
The only thing I would use it for is games and game-related ring tones.
But games on them are crap (for the most part) and it seems if you don't have a "normal" ring tone everybody gives you a menacing stare.
Should I finally join the 21st Century and get a ear-cancer box, I mean mobile phone? -

My phone can use WMA files as ringtones (MP3 as well, but WMA files are smaller).
I've currently got part of the Beyond Good and Evil soundtrack as my ringtone. I really want the 24 theme tune though, anyone have a link? -

Registered 18 years agoBeen using the original System Shock theme and level 1 midis for my ringtones for about 2 years now. Always loved that music.
It's about time I got a new phone but there doesn't seem to be much choice of ones that support mp3 or wma just yet. What's yours TT? I've kept my Siemens S55 for years because it's the nicest keypad and software of any phone I've had. The gf got a motorola clam shell thingy fairly recently which supports mp3s, but the thing is horrible to use and buggy as hell. -

Registered 17 years agoI seem to have a habit of using death metal guitar solos for midi ringtones. Bastards to program in, but they're kinda cool (individual rings for groups of people - my northern mates have the intro to Scavenger of Human Sorrow by Death) -

An SPV C500. Its pretty much a slightly cut down Pocket PC crammed into a teeny little phone (well, compared to by previous 3410, probably bigger than your S55). You can have mp3s as ringtones, alerts etc. -

Lutz mate. I would fucking love you to email Toe Jam and Earl over.
MP3 ringtones have changed everything for me. I used to use midi game music, but now I use...actual game music \o/
Sonic intro for ringtone, ring collection sound for text. Get, in. -
Tricky, I needs that 24 ring tone. Where would one procure it?
