Even though I suspect it'll end in disappointment, I'm still massively stoked for IT. Massively, I tells ya! Tim Curry absolutely terrified me as a child; the scene where his face appears in the moon is probably responsible for why I always sleep with the blinds closed ![]() Edit: wait, what? It's in two parts? How did I miss that. Slightly wary of a direct split if so; the 1950s sections, where they are kids, are the strongest sections of the book (in my humble opinion) - I'd worry about how compelling the 1980s sections would be contained to a movie by themselves... But fuck it: HYPE! |

Registered 9 years agoI watched The Wailing last night. Korean film in which a small town has a spate of murders that coincide with the arrival of an old Japanese man. Not as scary, weird or opressive as I was hoping for but it's excellent and worth checking out.
it's on UK Netflix.

Registered 14 years agoWatched 'hush' on Netflix the other night. I thought it was pretty good for a home invasion/slasher type thing. I found myself quite on edge, really rooting for the victim who is both mute and deaf. -
I enjoyed 13 sins, bit of a guilty pleasure
Has anyone seen A Dark Song? -

Good shout on 'I am not a serial killer'.....had seen it listed but ignored it....Just watched it and exactly our sort of thing....
And not just Christopher Lloyd in it..the kid from where the wild things are played a blinder in the main role... -
Not new, but just rewatched The Shining. Pure distilled dread. Room 237 freaks me the hell out. -

Registered 9 years agoI put a review of it in the review thread, but it's probably good here too.
The Endless. It's a low-budget, indie film that's sort of like cosmic horror (think Cthulu, fear of the unknowable, etc). I saw it at a festival, and it was utterly fantastic. Hopefully it will get a general release, but if not you should totally track it down. -

good find, will add to the list - i see the makers were also responsible for 'resolution', which is a brilliant film... -

Watched a clip for this, set on a lake. It didn't reveal much. I'm curious. Anything Lovecraftian automatically has my attention.

Which is also why I watched 'The Void'. It was distractingly low budget at times, but had a nice line in gory practical effects. And when it goes full Lovecraftian in the back half, it gets quite cool and abstract. I quite enjoyed it, even though it was more budget looking than most. -

Registered 12 years agoi was pleasantly surprised by the void - i'm not a great 'creature feature'/80s shlock fan but this did it so, so right for me...one of my favourite films ever is the thing and the void scratched that itch very well... -
Yeah I had The Thing and Silent Hill in mind while watching it, it was certainly better than the Thing prequel that came out a few years back.
Incidentally, The Thing is getting a LE Blu Ray release from Arrow Video, got it on preorder already. I've been buying a lot of stuff from them recently because they do some excellent rereleases of classic horror and exploitation movies. Got Deep Red, Inferno and Reanimator ready to be watched. -

It's apparently connected to Resolution in some way (though I don't know because I haven't watched Resolution). So yeah, probably something you'd like.

Registered 8 years agoSo I was close to buying The Void on BR the other day when I was in HMV. Seeing as though I'm big on Carpenter, Lovecraft, Silent Hill and all that jazz. Should I have just bought it? I really do want to see it and it was only about 8 quid or so... -

Registered 8 years agoAlso I've decided to go and see IT at the 12.01 showing at my local cinema myself next Thursday / Friday. Is that sad? I don't want a discussion after seeing it with anyone! I'm too excited. I've never been to the cinema myself before but for some reason it has to be done this way. -

definitely if you;re into carpenter/lovecraft - that's the vibe it's after...i'm heavily into both an really enjoyed it...i see silent hill less in it... -

If you like those things it's work a watch, although probably not a rewatch. I found the budget restrictions a bit distracting but the overall idea is good.

Also, there's nothing wrong with seeing a film yourself!
In fact in most cases I find it downright preferable... -

Registered 8 years ago@GarlVinland Yeah I'm starting to think that to be honest. Last few times I've not shared the same views of the people I've gone to the film with and I find that it kind of sullies the experience a bit as I like to digest a film after, not go into a rant about how it didn't meet my expectations! -

Im going with the wife next weekend to watch it. I think it's the first time we've been since the first hobbit film. If she didn't fancy it I would of just gone on my own.

Registered 12 years agoNice one
I'm going to get away from the office a bit earlier on that Friday and catch an afternoon showing on my tod - my wife outright refuses to go see anything horror related.
Love going to the cinema myself to be honest, particularly when it's completely dead (no pun intended)!
Also, I actually seen the Void quite recently and really enjoyed it. It's far from 'great', but if you like Carpenter, or any pseudo-Lovecraftian stuff, then it's well worth a watch. Cool soundtrack too, which was also vaguely reminiscent of Carpenter's musical stylings. -

Registered 4 years agoTrain to Busan (Amazon prime) Now I very rarely watch films, probably once a year or if Predator is on TV but the misses who is a horror buff said this had a great review on fangoria. South Korean zombie film. Very clever effects.
The wife also said The autopsy of Jane Doe was one of the best horror films she has seen for years. -
To add to the Train to Busan suggestion: Seoul Station is a prequel of sorts.
It's animated, possibly due to the time and budget constraints of releasing it at the same time as TtB, but don't let that put you off. It does a decent job of fleshing out the beginning of the outbreak from another perspective and is actually a pretty good story in its own right.
