Xbox One closes monthly sales gap with PS4.
Now only a narrow margin between them. Due to the price difference MS are actually making more in terms of dollars. Also puts the sales of the Xbox One 61% higher than the 360 at the same point of it's life. -

I'm not. Given the negative reaction to the game ftom the Sony lads here, they've made the right decision.
I'm surprised EA went with exclusivity on MS platforms with Titanfall 1 tbh. -

Some of the deals that they're doing pretty much cancel out the price difference too. Throwing in Titanfall for free, etc.

Not exactly a surprising reaction though, is it.

Looking at the console sales figures so far Titanfall hasn't made much difference at all so what's next on MS 's shopping list? -

Registered 14 years agoI can fully understand Titanfall shifting lots of Xbox Ones. I am tempted even though I generally dislike online multiplayer. (Hype reminds me of the Gears launch that sold me a 360).
It is certainly more appealing than Second Son which has had a surprisingly muted advertisement campaign so far. (Predicting EG 8, Edge 6, Metro GC 6 and Games TM 7 for that). -

Hopefully Titanfall will help shift a fair number of consoles. Last thing anyone wants is Sony being complacent again. -

EA took a caculated risk based before both consoles were officially announced. EA expected microsoft to beat sony hands down, it hasnt worked out that way, i bet respawn weren't very happy with this.

Thats not closing the gap, the gap is still growing, its just growing a little slower. Math fail. -

According to Pachter, in conversations with the previous EA CEO, they and the industry in general thought Sony were on the way out, even the gaming media thought this.

When you think about the original Xbox reveal Microsoft must have been supremely confident as well, they thought they were going to wipe Sony out and it didn't even matter if the PS4 could play used games whilst their platform restricted them.
Both parties negotiated on that basis.

Registered 14 years ago@Cappy I disagree with all those rumours. Sony's last few years, when these EA/MS negotiations must have been going on, were insanely strong. They'd also (just barely) overtook the 360 on a worldwide sales basis, so if EA offered MS Titanfall because they thought Sony were down and out they are complete fucking idiots.
It's much more likely that MS just offered EA a massive, massive bag of cash. It's also possible IMO that at this point said bag of cash won't make up the shortfall in installed base and EA are now kicking themselves.

Registered 16 years agoVarious decision makers in the games industry really did think Microsoft was going to kill Sony.
Any success Sony had is invisible to them since it is outside of the US and the entire industry has become focused on the United States.
Even the games media followed since that is also now dominated by outlets based in the United States, hence the 'deal with it' phase of the DRM debacle.
Of course EA got cash, but the deal was also built on the context of EA backing the winner, most of the publishers followed suit, look at what they released on the PS4. Every release was treated as an afterthought because time and energy was going elsewhere, patching in massive performance boosts right after release on COD and Assassin's Creed fits no other scenario. -

Registered 9 years agoI would agree a large sum of money was offered to EA and no doubt it seemed like a smart idea to EA.
Unfortunately smart and EA are words that go together in the same sentence.
I'm glad if EA lose money on titntall as a result. Serves them right

Risk? EA will have been given a lot of money for this deal. There is no way MS could afford the market share to keep it X1 only, so the MS/PC platform exclusive was the next best thing.

They won't lose money. They will have forecast sales for the Sony side of the market, said to Microsoft "you give us that please" and then done that deal. There is no way Microsoft can keep up that sort of investment though, they need to make these things themselves.

Registered 16 years agoMicrosoft drove a dump truck full of money to EA headquarters for titanfall, what did you expect them to do? They aren't made of stone. -
@Widge
In theory yes, that depends on the deal and the amount of money offered. You can argue that sales on another console would amount to more or less, we would never know its not likely EA are going to disclose the agreement
