Anyone see Paul Whitehouse's new series last night? 'Help' has him playing dozens of different psychiatric patients visiting a seemingly down trodden mild mannered British shrink played by Chris Langham. I never really rated Langham before last night, but he was absolutely brilliant as the restrained slightly flaky psychiatrist. The sudden show of back bone by him when dealling with a disruptive patient, and the ensuing medical breakthrough in getting him to admit he actually has a problem....fantastic! Paul Whitehouse's characters varied between typical Fast Show zaniness, to Harry Enfield style repugnance, right the way through to really quite moving character studies. The old Jewish guy who was nursing his senile wife, while refusing to give into self pity....it (nearly) had me blubbing like a baby. I reccommend yawl check it out. Top quality telly, to be sure. |
