They have a massive (and valid in the lore) get-out clause, though. It's a common thread throughout the franchise that they're not really dinosaurs. They've always been hybrids, built using mostly dinosaur DNA. It's talked about at length in the first, and Alan Grant gets all angry about it in the third. Any differences between paleontological science and the animals in the film can be explained in that way.
Vision still based on movement?
Funny seeing a film franchise have to ignore new science in order to create a cohesive world.
In fact, given that a big chunk of the Jurassic World story is the "hybrid" dinosaur, and Trevorrow's insistence on using the classic appearances (fine by me), I'd be surprised if this isn't alluded to in the film:
- "You made a hybrid dinosaur?!"
- "They've always been hybrids"
- Cut to computer monitor with fancier graphics than the cartoon in JP -

Registered 15 years agoYeah I was thinking that earlier. You're right, using the frog DNA in 1 and the genetic modifications in 4 does give them a get out clause for why they're not feathered etc.
Actually makes sense that using frog DNA would give them scaly skin! -

Registered 12 years agoWell they weren't scaley, so in spite of the unforunate choice of words, you're right. That said, one of the other pillars of the franchise is that JP was a view on what John Hammond wanted you to see, not necessarily what was actually happening. If I remember rightly in the books they were spliced with more than just frog DNA - so basically any characteristic you want to pick fault with, scientifically, they can just say "oh, well that is a trait from X animal DNA we used". -

Registered 15 years agoHmm. I was pretty confident about this, what with the cast and director, but the more I see the more doubts I have about it.
Hoping it turns out great though. -
I'm thinking this is going to be some good old dumb fun.
Still love that Raptor shot.
