I'm not 100% sure as I've (rather criminally) not seen the film yet, but I'm fairly sure Season 2 takes place before the film. I'm think all the Gerhardt family are long dead by the time the events of the film happen . As I say though, I'm not 100% sure on that.
I watched the film recently. The dad from the film, is the dad that stroked out in season two I think. -

Different bloke. Same kind of look to them though.

Lots of little nods from the film. -

Registered 9 years agoYeah, the bloke who played that role in the film died a few years ago. They do look kind of similar. -

Film's from 1996, so not even quite 20 years. Not that I think great films usually look "dated" even after a few decades.

I watched the film years after it came out, and it didn't seem all that dated at all. Full credit to the Coen brothers.
The film is like 25 years old, I'm sorry but that is a dumb fucking question. -

Registered 9 years agoThe film is as good as it ever was. It's not like it relied heavily on technology or special effects or anything. -

Registered 18 years agoThe stroke dad did resemble the film dad briefly to my eyes, until I quickly realised it's Saul TIgh from BSG, at which point I thought....hmm, Saul Tigh wasn't in Fargo. -

Registered 9 years agoGood last episode. It was sad, in a melancholic kind of way. I kind of felt sorry for Mike. Success in the 80's is probably going to take some getting used to. -

Registered 16 years agoI agree, of all the ways for Mike's story to end (for now at least), that seems like one of the saddest ways it could've went.
Overall I really enjoyed it. I loved that they didn't feel the need to kill off literally everyone that wasn't in the first season. It was nice to come out with certain characters alive, even if we know they might not make for all that much longer.
Also I liked Hanzee's fate, but I can see people feeling differently there. -

Registered 15 years agoLoved the use of 'War Pigs' at the beginning. Loved the flash-forward too.
Mike's fate kinda reminded me of Vic Mackey's in The Shield. Hell is being tied to a desk.
Overall, I thought it tied up the season well. It also leaves it open to a continuing story, rather than separated, if they want to go that route. -
Terrific season, some great TV and some superb performances. Hard to fault it. -

Registered 9 years agoIt wouldn't have made any sense, but I would have loved it if Hanzee turned out to be Malvo from S1. As it was, he was just some minor mob boss that dies uselessly. Bit of a shame. -

Registered 16 years agoFantastic season of television that's shoved the show really near the top of my all time faves.
Bit gutting to know we aren't getting another episode until Spring 2017!! -

Registered 7 years agoJust watched the season finale, enjoyed the season after initial trouble getting over the different characters from season 1.
Not kept up with the whole thread, but anyone want to explain the UFO in ep 9 to me? -

Registered 16 years agoI thought that they purposefully used the book narration to frame that episode, with its abundance of UFO, to make it clear that whilst it's based on a a "true story", that story has grown arms, legs, and apparently flying saucers in the many years since it happened.
So sure, maybe it wasn't really a UFO, but the survivors say they saw one, so that's how the story goes.

Registered 9 years agoI like to think that the aliens were just there to observe human behaviour, and went away thinking "wtf is wrong with humanity?"
It's also pretty poetic in a way, because the UFO was at least partially responsible for all this happening in the first place.

Registered 15 years agoThe UFO is what caused the younger Gerhardt brother to stop in the middle of the road, which in turn led to him getting hit by the car. -

Registered 7 years agoI completely forgot what the heck happened to Indians face.
That scared the heck out of me more than all those grisly murders. Overall i enjoyed the show but still prefer the movie for a more beleivable story. One of my all time faves actually.

Not gonna happen but it would be cool. -
I loved the ending. It wrapped up enough to be satisfying, but left enough stray threads to mean there are some interesting possibilities for season 3. I knew some people might not be enthusiastic about some things, but I'm glad it ended the way it did
