Registered 15 years agoAfter the utter dirge that was BvS, I've no doubt whatsoever that Snyder will once again make this into an overlong, dull, stupid slogfest of a film. -

For many, he was a key figure in making that film work as a director. I wonder if the DCEU will ever get good? -

Registered 15 years agoI think there's plenty of directors who would 'get' Batman and who could make it work. Whether Warners know who they are is another question I guess. So far they've not filled e with any confidence that they know what they're doing in terms of big picture stuff.
They need someone as good as Kevin Feige over at Marvel. And to stop using Zack Snyder. -

Registered 13 years agoThat's a shame. I liked the thought of him directing. There's plenty of good talent out there. Fingers crossed they don't just keep down the same path they have been doing. -

Registered 15 years agoMatt Reeves would be a solid pick. He clearly knows how to do good storytelling in a larger world - I loved the last Planet of the Apes movie. -

Registered 7 years agoEven on his comeback his hit rate is pretty poor. Less than 50% of what he's been involved in over the last 5 years had been good and the rest has been mediocre to awful.
Don't think him not directing is that big a loss tbh. -

Registered 6 years agoOut of the films he's directed Town is his best imo. Gone Baby Gone was very good as well but I though the ending was kind of pish (although that's probably not his fault). Argo didn't really do it for me. He's obviously a very talented director though. -

Registered 15 years agoYeah I really like him as a director. The Town is also my favourite of his that I've seen. I liked Argo a lot too though, and Gone Baby Gone (although I rewatched that recently and I didn't think it was as good for some reason). -

Registered 17 years agoThey used to be friends but Smith has said numerous times on Fat Man on Batman that he hasn't seen or had anything to do with him in years. Smith would acknowledge that he wouldn't be a good fit for the film, as much as he'd love to do it. -

Registered 16 years agoSmith isn't a director you hire if you want a house style lump of crap pushed out of the sausage factory.
He would want to do things his way like, I dunno, trying to get the story to make sense. -

Registered 18 years agoI wonder if WB are going to start over if Wonder Women and Justice League fail to hit the big money. Sure the recent films have been profitable but you want mega bucks with these characters not just getting by.
I'm not going to the cinema again for any DC films unless the reviews are amazing and faith in the brand must be down the toilet by now surely for some people. The DC films making less money is the only way to make WB put out better films and hopefully begin again.
I'll take a Denis Villeneuve DC film please.

Registered 15 years agoI can understand the temptation to try and copy the Marvel model, but they were already onto a much better thing with the Nolan Batman films. They should have let similar auteur directors do their own thing with the IP and they'd have probably ended up with similar results. Let George Miler do that Justice League film he's always wanted to do. Give Superman to Spielberg. Wonder Woman to Kathryn Bigelow. Batman to Aronofsky. Etc etc.
Yes you wouldn't haven't had a cohesive universe to milk, but you'd have had something different and incomparable. And you'd probably end up with some genuinely top tier movies, way beyond the cookie cutter Marvel stuff. -
