what i hear from people who stopped playing it is that the abilities actually removed flexibility, and it's frustrating. you used to be able to simply jump on a ledge while shooting at a guy. now you have to turn away from the guy, face the ledge, and succumb to a 1second animation before you can fight again. You can still crouch-jump. There are plenty of useful crouch-jumping spots in the maps. You probably shouldn't be trying to clamber during a gunfight.
it's the same with sprint. you used to move at top speed all the time, any direction. now its just fowards, and you have to stop shooting and it screws with your shield.
The game would be more approachable if instead of abilities, players could just move and shoot freely w/o having to put their gun down, or look in specific areas.
You don't have to sprint. In Arena, you can very easily run into somewhere if you're sprinting around like a spanner. It's a tool. Like any other, know when to use it.
The core of Halo 5 is still moving and shooting. That's why it's so important that aiming is consistent whether you're on the ground or in the air. Because you're always moving, shooting, or moving and shooting.
There are a number of posters talking about wanting to get rid of the abilities to make the game purer and more 'classic', yet then go on to say that thrust can stay. You know, the movement ability that has the most impact in the game. The one that lets you air-strafe during a gunfight. The one that lets you make jumps you otherwise wouldn't be able to and get around maps more quickly/in unexpected ways.
I just... why does this nonsense annoy me so much?!?
Git good scrubs. I reckon for all the hardcore talk, a lot of people are put off because H5 is harder, in a good way.
Honestly - and fair play to them - a couple of the posters do say it's too complicated. Not for them, though - just that it's too complex and needs to be simplified.
I don't get it. It's not rocket science, and all the abilities open up interesting new possibilities. Do these people have no curiosity about them? Tbf, I feel like the one I quoted above doesn't, otherwise they would realise that you would actually need to know where you can crouch-jump in certain maps - by actually testing it out for yourself - to be able to do it backward while fighting an opponent. Which is no different to its use in 5; you can't just jump backwards, hit crouch, and expect to... I don't know? Climb a fucking wall?
Another poster said that if they take a few months off they come back and get crushed. So? Play some more games, your rank will adjust or you'll knock the rust off. Their solution? Not to play the game more to get back into it, no. 343 should instead "tone some gameplay down."
I think I need a chamomile tea or something.

It amazes me how much people that regard themselves as good players show such a complete and utter lack of basic understanding when it comes to what makes Halo 5 great. I suck, but still understand why the game is that way it is.
That said, change radar and the 343 offices might "accidentally" catch fire.
I agree, Fawkes. They'll have to pry my radar out of my Spartan's cold, dead hands!
I wonder how much of it is the echo chamber-y nature of the internet. I feel like some liked Halo because it seemed simple, tried 5, bounced off it because they weren't prepared to actually put the time in to understand the changes and how they fit in, and then just angrily resort to posting the same circular bollocks in every Halo thread from now unto time immemorial.
Then it just becomes a sort of oft-repeated 'truth'. Halo is dad.
Oh that chatter is totally echo chamber stuff. Ignores context (360 + Halo 3 was height of MS success, X1 a big step down) and wood/trees with anecdotes etc.
Yeah. People bring those things up and they're dismissed, because Halo should be the top game for reasons. There's a lot more competition now, and all of it is multiplatform.
There are still people that say Halo 5 sold poorly as if it's a fact, even after Frankie said it was at around five million units after three months. Repeat something often enough (while ignoring information that doesn't suit your narrative) and it becomes true!

I'm ready for 6.
5 isn't perfect, by any means, but the context means the flaws and the disappointments are exploded.
Plus, some people are a bit stupid. I once saw someone complain that this image () didn't represent the game because... it wasn't in the game. There was an alternate version, iirc, of Chief standing over Locke. Apparently the metaphorical theme, of 'the fallen hunter/quarry', the obvious duality, the nature of advertising campaigns and contextual narratives, etc, was totally lost on this guy, who essentially charged 343 with false advertising.
Why I remember this shit...

Did they think you'd see the scene with both Locke and Chief holding the gun? I mean, I do feel they fumbled the hunter/hunted theme in the game itself, but the ad was so very obviously not a literal reading of an in-game event.
Man, the Halo 5 marketing was so good, though, and I have a feeling we'll see some of that stuff surface in Halo 6. I can't remember if it was in this thread or another, but I remember mentioning that the original "Halo on Xbox One" trailer they showed at E3 2013 (Ponchief 4eva) might be an event in Halo 6. Because it makes no sense for Halo 5.
He was completely unsurprised by the appearance of a Guardian, and he had the crack in his visor that Locke gave him in 5. At the time, it was very definitely not sold as 'Halo 5' as well. IIRC, Bonnie Ross just said 'Halo on Xbox One'.
Chances that that trailer is actually on the Halo we see at the end of Halo 5/Wars 2? Fairly high, I think.
1-2 down in CTF 6 seconds to go.
2-2 1 second to go.
3-2 win a minute later in overtime.
It is funny, you can feel the momentum of games.
