Yea but how many of these New gen games have reached the PC? not many yet, In the coming months we have games like watchdogs etc and then we are going to see the true next gen games and how they perform. Recommended specs for watchdogs is an i7.... http://uk.ign.com/wikis/watch-dogs/PC_System_Requirements Edited by nathan_digweed at 15:32:13 18-05-2014 |

Registered 12 years agoYea I agree there recommended specs are a bit of a joke but they are part of a growing trend and by next year most games I am willing to bet will be recommending i7s. Your GPU advice is sound, hell I am still on a gtx460 and it does me fine on medium settings at 1080p.
But I strongly disagree with your views on getting a i5 over an i7. A better CPU now will last you longer and serve you better down the line saving you money in the long run.
And Watchdogs is not the only game recommending i7s in there specs, it was just one example of many. Witcher 3 is recommending an i7 for max settings... -

Registered 15 years agoWhy would you overclock an i7 to 4.5GHz when it is only coupled to a GTX460? Must be a bit overkill, no? -

Registered 8 years ago@nathan_digweed just looking at these specs which also say these look overkill, even on ultra it on only wants a Nvidia Gtx 670, coupled with an Intel i7. Which seems a bit strange to me. I think witcher 3 said something similar, seems a bit like Intel trying to shift more i7s by getting game developers to recommend them over i5s. -

Registered 12 years agoI only have to bump my core voltage up a little for 4.5, at 5 i have to bump it up alot more and tbh I do not see the point in using more power for a little speed increase.
This is de-railing into a e-penis contest but I am sure OP is wise enough to decide on who's advice he wants to follow and I wish him the best with his new build. As I said your graphics card advice is sound but IMO a better CPU will work out better in the long run for the reasons I have stated above.
Anyways, Peace. -

Registered 12 years agoDude look at your core voltage, stock is between 1.2 and 1.25 on an i5 2500k, your on 1.57... The extra power it is using is not worth it for the small speed increase and the risk of shortening the life of your cpu. Your not using air at that voltage increase...
@Browzer43, Dude, do yourself a favour and abandon this thread, go to overclockers uk forums or toms hardware and make a post there. You will get much better advice. And to answer your question, the difference between a 670 and a 770 is not that much at all. Which is why when you do upgrade your graphics card you want at least a 2 gen difference before you will notice any big improvements. You should proberly just get a 760, because for 1080p 60fps gaming that will be more than enough and last a few good years. I still recommend a better CPU for future proofing

Registered 12 years agoSandybridge maximum safe voltages
Core Voltage - Not recommended too exceed 1.38v, doing so could kill the CPU, we therefor recommend a range of 1.325-1.350v if overclocking.

You should change your core voltage Dirtbox -

Registered 16 years agoThe only game that I own that would apparently benefit from an i7 over an i5 is fsx/ p3d so I've not bothered to change mine. However, i think it's basically impossible to max out that game at 60fps on any level of current hardware so it's all relative anyway -
