| My P3 on the other hand is still rocking fine. They didn't do a P1 when I bought mine, and the P2 looked a bit cheapo then, so perhaps the P1 was one corner cut too many. Like you say though, yours sounds good when it works. |

Registered 15 years agoWondering if I can sound out an idea for my kitchen audio.
I want a stereo in the kitchen like a Ruark R3 or Revo Superconnect which is a multifunction device with FM, DAB, Bluetooth, Spotify connect and Internet radio but I want to set such a thing up as a multi speaker / stereo ( not multi room) system. Apart from traipsing wires around the room for some bookshelff speakers I'm wondering if I can use the RCA or optical output to a Bluetooth transmitter so that I can then get something like a couple of Harmon Kardon omni 10's hooked up to repeat the audio.
What i'd be worried about is having to sync the separates every time I switch it on and also a mismatch / delay in audio.
I'm wondering what sort of system you guys have for the kitchen to fill the room a bit more than a standalone unit?
Wireless multi room set up as a stereo isn't really an option as Mrs Ewing won't pick up phone or laptop to change over, she wants physical buttons and screens! -

Registered 16 years agoI'd imagine it cause significant delay, unless you had a directly wired connection to speaker. You'd have AD conversion, whatever the hell communication layer happens over BT, and then DA again at the other end. -

Ha, all you boys with your modern toys, I still use a 1992 Nakamichi Sound Space 7 and a circa late 80's Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck for my music playback, apart from a re-cap and mechanical service of the Dragon ten odd years ago it all still work and still sounds brilliant. Admittedly I'd like some new high end stuff, but there is no way on Earth I'm pulling that off with the wife looking over my shoulder. -
I think its disgusting that EG let this thread continue. I mean, I know we need somewhere to safely house ecosse but the rest of you? -

These are awesome but not in most people's price bracket. Take up a bit of space too. I like the Quad sound and still use Quad 11L speakers in my set up. PMC are pretty good too.

I have the Quads in the maple finish. They are about 10 or 12 years old now but they still sound great. Use them in my hifi setup but they also perform great as my tv speakers for everyday use.

I'll probably look at replacing them in the next few years, I'll definitely be auditioning some Audio Physic stuff. -

Registered 20 years agoBit old-school, but I picked up a pair of the Lidl on-ear cans in store today - 8 quid. They look pretty good for the money with no obvious branding except on a label you can remove from the cable, which is braided.
The downsides are the headphone adjustments are a bit cheap feeling, the cable's not detachable (but then it isn't on my fancy cans either). They leak a fair bit as well.
In terms of sound it's a mixed bag. There's a lot more bass than my cheap and cheerful AKG earphones, but it's rather loose and uncontrolled - which is the minimum you could expect given the relative size of the drivers. The top end's a little lacking too, but it's no worse than my AKGs which cost twice as much. It pales into insignificance next to my Marshall Majors, even though I'd struggle to define those as hifi, but those did cost me ten times what this cost.
But one benefit for me is that they sport a proper 3.5mm stereo jack, not a 4-way stereo+mike jack like my Major's have, which limits which devices I can plug those into.
I've not worn them for long enough to report on comfort. They feel fine when first on, but then it takes a few hours continuous for my Major's to make my lugs feel tender. -

A review of some blu tack I have under my speakers
Bass depth a bit lacking, should've bought the white blu tack which I believe has better response times -

iPod? Get with the program Granddad.
Nobody will want em if they've not got an in-line mic / controls. Even if they ARE Lidl branded -

Registered 7 years agoI have some lovely kef speakers for my home surround sound set-up, and I got an extra set to use for music in other rooms of my house using a couple mini wireless-audio amplifier (like sonos, but not sonos, as it can also do lossless audio). The sound is great, and the little receivers are actually more powerful than my HT receiver, but when I connect the same subwoofer as is connected to my HT, it is just way too loud (and the receiver doesn't have an option to drop the bass folume)! The KEFs are of the bookshelf variety and they do need a little bit of extra bass. I've ordered a mini external RCA volume control - but does anybody have any other tips? -

The over-ear ones are discounted too at £149. I paid nearly twice that and they're worth it. They look lovely too. Perfect antidote to tacky Beats shit. Also the on-ear ones are available in other colours at slight more than 59.
