Registered 13 years agoI know I bet he was constantly losing his shit during the Sega/Nintendo days. 90% of the games out on the NES and Master system were exclusive to those consoles. -

I'm sorry you won't be able to play this (obvious sour grapes) but you are acting like the studio was bought out in a hostile takeover. No doubt they were very happy with their deal, and are getting a great deal of benefits out of it.
Sony has been far more active in restricting choice but that's irrelevant. Neither company should be doing this. It means lost sales either way so I hope the idiots got plenty of cash.
Previous indies have spoken very highly of teaming up with Sony. The same cannot be said for Microsoft, and they are probably still paying for that bad reputation. Talking about restrictions... it wasn't Sony who said launch on another platform first and you can't come to our platform at all.
Game looks good, can't wait

Listed for 42.99 at Base.com.
Is it a full priced title?
Looks like a download game. Better have a platinum! -

I've ordered from Base before and they're pretty good, especially with dispatching stuff early. But yeh, it does look like a listing for the sake of it.
Strange there isn't more information on price, unless its going to be delayed. That would explain the lack of publicity too. -

No but I'd prefer if all games were available for both consoles. I don't know any reason not to want that other than fanboy immaturity. The Xbox One and PS4 are broadly very similar devices. There's no real reason that any game should be exclusive especially these indie games. In fact I'd imagine first party games would sell more if they were available on both platforms. The Street Fighter V and Rise of the Tomb Raider deals are idiotic.

1) It means games can be optimized better. There is a reason exclusives often are jaw dropping, simply the devs can focus on one format.
2) Sometimes the game simply would not be made without the cash injection from the platform holder. (See Bayoneta 2)
3) Your tears of fury amuse. -

I can understand the optimization argument despite multi-platform games looking better in some instances but that doesn't apply to indie games.
Also I can't imagine Sony is paying too much for any of these deals. Most of these games are pretty much finished before they step or Microsoft step in. -

Just because they're technologically similar now doesn't change the business model: buy in, or build, the most exclusive titles you can to make your platform the platform of choice for more consumers. It's basic business.
I guess you don't watch any subscription TV channels? That shit should all be on the BBC, right?
Of course it's stupid, from a consumer standpoint, but that's how business works. Where there's competition, there's differentiation. On a games console, that means games.
Plus you're acting as though spitting a game out for another platform is just ten minutes work. In the first instance, you literally double the amount of QA you need to do. In the second instance, platform approvals are a fucking nightmare. In the third instance, optimising down from the PS4 to the dribbling shit of a console that is the xbox one and still having a good game at the end is a nightmare!
that last one was just in there to raise your heartrate even further in the hope that you might actually spew blood onto the keyboard and seek the help you so desperately need

Yes but there is a difference. Microsoft own the IP and are the sole investors in that game. Sony do not own the Firewatch IP. Replace Sony with Microsoft and Firewatch with Rise of the Tomb Raider if it makes it easier for you to understand.
I'd like to play Forza Horizon 2. Are Microsoft cunts for keeping that to themselves? Not much difference really. -

Registered 17 years agoThere's no problem with being disappointed you can't playing a particular game (although say that out loud and you might reconsider). Your childish reaction - "they're just telling me to fuck off" - marks you out as... special.
Especially as the reason for all these exclusives is patently obvious. It's all business. You're taking it personally. Good luck with that. -

SF5 isn't the same. That's been bank-rolled by Sony, same as bayonetta 2 was on the Wii U by Nintendo. Capcom have had some troubles so we literally wouldn't have seen it for a long time if Sony hadn't stepped in.

If you don't like this business model of competing devices with basically identical hardware, it would be consequent not to buy a console at all. It's as simple as that. In the age of HDMI, small form-factor PCs, gamepads and streaming devices, "I don't like to play on PCs" isn't really a valid argument.

And why only "both consoles". What about PC (in general, not in this case), the WiiU, Macs, Linux?
And why "especially these indie games"?
FWIW, I kind of share the sentiment, the competition on a hardware/artificially proprietary level is pretty dubious, but as soon as you buy a console, you're part of the problem (so am I).
Finally, is there also any evidence that Sony bought any kind of exlusivity here? They're a small developer, maybe they're focusing their efforts on the platforms that they think make most sense?

It definitely applies to Indie games as much as "AAA" titles if not even more. It allows more time and man power to be devoted to getting the game running on fewer platforms or even just a single platform. It wont necessarily mean that it'll have state of the art graphics but the end result will have greatly benefited from it, especially if the development team is small.

Usually indie studios will also benefit from these sorts of deals as a company like Sony may help them with development, offer their expertise with the console and/ or help them along with certain processes games have to go through to get published. -

Registered 18 years agoSure looks nice, even though it's borrowing a little too much from TF2 for my tastes. But what do you actually do?
Seems like an old style point and clicker to me. -
TF2? Point and click? Are you quite sure you posted this in the thread you wanted to post it? -
@MrFlay
That reminds me...how is the new tomb raider -
The cell shading a bulging under arms made me think of TF2 when I first saw it.
Then I watched the clip where the guy heads out to tell off some fireworks firing yoofs off and it looked very point and clicky to me.
Came off a bit like a chore to me. But I guess heavily scripted games (as this seems to be) must guide players rather hamfistedly through the game.
Maybe the massive hands are a direct acknowledgement of this?
Anyways, if all there is to it is a bunch of fetch quests then it might be a bit too linear for my tastes.
