I don't get why a tv series has been commissioned for a book series that is yet to be resolved. What are they going to do when the tv series outpaces the books? Stop?

At the rate GRRM is going, he'll have released an novel's worth of preview chapters before the book is actually released.

I have heard a rumour that he has revealed the ending already to the TV script writers just in case he does kick the bucket.

Considering the pace of the TV series I really hope the TV series doesn't influence the books. That would suck...

@BartonFink That's not a rumour, they've stated it out right that GRRM has revealed the whole story to the HBO producers.

Both GRRM and the HBO guys have stated they would much prefer the books to come out first. But if GRRM fails to finish the books by the time HBO catch up... I'm not sure they're going to wait for him!

Yeah, the books start off great, but start to lose focus and meander. The tv series however just goes from strength to strength.

It only gets really boring/pointless when they travel through the time portal/vortex on the tree and start changing Bran's history/destiny.
