Just to shift the focus of this thread slightly... did the OP really join the site just to post a thread about pewdiepie?

End of the day, he's not billed as a children's entertainer. His material is 12A - 15 if it were classified. But if parents want to let their kids on the net unimpeded to watch/look at whatever they want, I'd hardly blame him first!
It's a bit of a grey area. All these Let's Play types are clearly marketed towards under 13s but I'm fairly sure you have be over 13 to have a Youtube account.

You only have to look at the state of the kids who turn up to their conventions. 90% of the audience don't look old enough to know how to spell Youtube.

@graysonavich Actually they're not. Consider the Lets Plays as an extension of gameplay trailers, with people putting a personal spin on them. Some of these games (The Call of Dootz, Battleferld, etc) have a very specific age rating. The Lets Plays aren't targetting at a specific age range because of their content - though taken at face value for the performances, some YouTubers obviously tailor it such as Pewdiepie, aiming for the late teens on his content. He's hardly making videos for 6 year olds, or aiming to replace Peppa Pig.

So for all of his nonsense about rape jokes (which are worse on paper than if you were to watch one of his videos!), which is adolescent humour you'd find in the school yard, "concerned" parents should really be focusing on what it is their watching - and less concerned with the personality attached.

    /End rant about lazy parenting

Perhaps I'm not making myself very clear on what I'm saying - these multimillion pound business (pewdiepie, yogscast, etc etc) are most definitely marketed towards 8-13 year olds, there's no question of that. Of course not all Lets Plays fall into that category, but the ones that make the series bucks definitely are.

They are 100% aware of this. It's a widely accepted fact. I'm saying it's a grey area because you technically aren't suppose to have a Youtube account if you're under 13, yet Youtube clearly push these guys to the forefront.

They belong to media companies just like any other form of monetised entertainment.

I blame the youth of today's rejection of drug use in their counterculture as clear source of their misguided ideas on what constitutes entertainment,.

In related news, Comedy Central have seen fit to give the piece of human cunt garbage that is KSI his own show. There's an advertorial in the Grauniad (of all places) today singing his praises (written by someone from Comedy Central, natch). No mention of rapeface in the precious Guardian article though. Just how funny all the kids think he is.

I'm sure this is the seventh sign of the apocalypse.

Ugh.... KSI. In my opinion he is infinitely more toxic than the likes of pewdiepie, after the shit he's pulled he should be ostracised, not rewarded. It's a fucked up world that sees the likes of him as entertainment.
  • Deleted user 31 July 2014 14:01:59
I still don't know much about this guy, to be honest. I'm well aware of his viewers though as they seem to populate random videos, leaving comments such as "PewDiePie bought me here lol".

Isn't KSI the cultural equivalent of someone like Frankie Boyle? Very polarising amongst audiences to say the least.

Boyle tells jokes with no holds barred that some find offensive. He's not doing anything wrong, even if some do find it in bad taste. KSI goes around expos groping every pretty girl he can find. Hardly an equivalent. Offending people =! sexual harassment.

The guardian have run an advertorial for it and, predictably, the comments section didnt go well for KSI.

KSI sexual harassment is bad. Jimmy Savile sexual harassment is worse. If you think that's an endorsement of KSI, go away and learn how to think.

Indeed. I really dislike the vast majority of youtube "talent" but there I some I really loathe.

It isn't the first time he had said some stupid shit, can only hope it hits him in the pocket and the finances take a hit.

I have no problem with people using the word nigger unless it's in a derogatory way like that. You don't just say that as a negative, slip of the tongue or not. What a prick.
