| I would have sold my right lung for a blue Burner with the mag wheels. I ended up with a Raleigh Commando, which was a poor man's Grifter. Weighed more than a family car but did have the oh-so-cool twist gear change. |

Registered 15 years agoYeah I ended up with some horrible heavy non-brand rip off of a Grifter. I painted it black to try and make it look like a proper pro BMX but didn't know what I was doing and painted it with some sticky gloss black door paint. Totally ruined what was already a horrible bike. And then had to ride it for years like that as there was no chance I was getting another one.
I remember when mountain bikes were first a thing and well and some kids had these kind of neon ones with matt black straight handle bars. Can't find an image now, but they were the shit as well. -

Hah! I did exactly the same. The paint ran and peeled AND bubbled. It looked post-apocalyptic but not in a cool way. That thing was so heavy it had a stopping distance measured in miles.

Registered 15 years agoIt's one of the bittersweet things of fatherhood watching my kid make similar mistakes and ruin beloved toys in an effort to improve them. It's painful to watch but you kind of have to let them do it to learn. -

Registered 17 years agoMy parents bought me a second-hand Raleigh Piranha. I loved that bike but my god was it heavy. Those solid metal spokes made wheelies a virtual impossibility. -

Registered 6 years agoI had one of these bad boys. That central console had a range of laser noises that were activated by a button on the handle bars. I was a king.

Registered 17 years agoHah, I remember those. Always wanted a Burner as my mate had a sweet black and gold One, but ended up with this instead

Registered 16 years agoOne of the few right moves my dad ever made was choosing the burner.
I was actually gutted on Xmas day because I really wanted a Raleigh Vektar or a Grifter.
They didn't sell the grifter anymore and the dude in the bike shop said the Vektar was a rip off and actually pretty shit, so he went for the burner.
I was initially gutted that I couldn't listen to the radio or make laser noises when I rode, but it very soon became clear that the burner was possibly the best thing mankind had ever invented. -

I couldn't remember what my BMX was called, all I remember was that it was blue and yellow. It was indeed awesome. Although I stacked it doing a jump up the ramp in the garages near me in the first week. Not sure I tried many stunts after that. :-/

That's definitely of a similar breed (same matt black straight handlebar), but the Lizard only came in green. These were neon pink and maybe yellow.

It could be they are some shit brand sold in my local bike shop which was why they were so popular at my school, but didn't really make it out the locality. I remember them vividly though. -

We had them in derby. We also had fake ones that said ROBB on them. I can't imagine anything worse than having a fake Naff Naff jacket other than maybe having a pair of fake Joe bloggs.
